Chinese Heritage Night at Oracle Park

In celebration of AAPI Heritage Month this May, Melody of China had the honor of performing the National Anthem at Oracle Park for Chinese Heritage Night during the San Francisco Giants game on May 19, 2025! It was a proud moment to share traditional Chinese music on such a grand stage and be part of a night that celebrated culture, community, and unity.

Deep Roots: An Afternoon of Chinese New and Traditional Music featuring Phil Young’s The Enchantment of Dance with Cellist Rachel Xu

Melody of China presents a colorful and exciting program spans various regions of China, including Sichuan, Yunnan, and Suzhou as well as Tibet and Mongolia, performed by virtuoso musicians on traditional instruments: erhu (2-string bowed fiddle); yangqin (hammered dulcimer); guzheng (table harp); pipa (lute); sheng (mouth organ); dizi (bamboo flute) and paigu (drums and percussion). The program features guest artist Rachel Xu on cello and a new work,  The Enchantment of Dance by composer Phil Young.

Educational Performances and Assemblies in Los Angeles

In partnership with the The Music Center, Melody of China offers live performances to the schools of Los Angeles. Audiences are introduced to Traditional Chinese instruments including the yangqin, pipa, erhu and sheng, and includes folk songs, classical, festival music, opera, popular music and instrumental pieces. The event offers fascinating selections that feature a blending of ancient cultural traditions of China and the youthful, multicolored American culture.

Having been trained at top conservatories in China and the US, our artists come together to deliver captivating performances and enriching experiences through an exciting blend of traditional Chinese music, western music, and cross-genre works. Led by Artistic Director, Yangqin Zhao on the hammered dulcimer, Melody of China’s performances have reached international stages, world music festivals, residencies, and collaboration projects with renowned artists and composers from around the world.
