Happy 2020! Wrapping up my 2019 books, so I can also take a look at the year as a whole. And definitely moving this off LJ to DW starting this year.

Books, October-December 2019Collapse )

That's it for 2019!

Literally still on LJ only to make these book posts, but I should probably think about moving them to DW next year...

This book post is coming late in October, whoops, but it has been a ridiculously busy month.

Books, July-September 2019Collapse )

Despite being in the middle of a book and having many books left on my to-read list, I spontaneously decided to add four books to my library holds list yesterday, with no time to read anything. Honestly, what am I thinking?

Let's take a look at the past three months of reading.

Books, April-June 2019Collapse )

Why am I still posting on LJ? Who knows, but here I am.

First three months of 2019, I read things! A pretty good mix of things, I guess. I'm not sure my To Read list ever shrinks but I haven't updated it in a while. I need to write it down and look at what books I want to tackle first. It's a mix of ebooks, library books, and stuff I actually have to buy to get my hands on because they're out of print/circulation! Also Slam Dunk.

Books, January-March 2019Collapse )

Onto my April books!

Wrapping up the last two months of the year as I continue to tackle new books for my 2019!

Books, November-December 2018Collapse )

Success for 2018! So now to tackle my 2019 reading list, which of course just keeps growing.

End of year wrap-up posts are due soon! So I thought I'd start with some reading reflections, though I've got at least two more to power through before 2019 rolls around.

Book series I've read in their entirety this year:
Straight Guys by Alessandra Hazard (0.5-9)
Queen's Thief by Megan Whalen Turner (1-5)
Five Boroughs by Santino Hassell (1-5.5)
The Disgraceful Dukes by Lenora Bell (1-3)
Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews (1-10)

Also The Barons series (only two books) by Santino Hassell and Fake Boyfriend series (also only two books so far) by Eden Finley.

Favorite books I read this year? I dearly loved The Princess Curse by Merrie Haskell (it deeply deserves a more mature sequel), The Cruel Prince by Holly Black (whose sequels I will have to impatiently await), and Bridge of Birds by Barry Hughart (whose sequels I will need to acquire as the library doesn't carry them). Catching up with the most recently published One Piece volumes were also great, even if we lag an arc or two behind the ongoing Japanese publications & scanlations. Rereading my favorite m/m manhwa (Boy Princess and Totally Captivated) was also an excursion into iddy delight. I read modern royalty romances in both m/f and m/m and though fun neither really charmed me. Also read a number of only mediocre m/m and m/f romances, largely regency/historical but some modern; some brilliant short stories that were too short (Zen Cho, Joanna Chambers, Stephanie Burgis); and as always some beloved Agatha Christie mysteries. I gotta branch out past her stuff -- for instance, Three Bags Full was a delightful departure, featuring detective sheep! Then there were also two Asian-American stories, kind of: To All the Boys I've Loved Before (adorable) and Sour Heart (not enjoyable, per se, but moving).

I'm in the midst of reading Good and Mad by Rebecca Traister now and though I often struggle with non-fiction, I'm glad to be reading this. It is both enraging and uplifting, as I'm sure a book about the revolutionary power of women's anger is meant to be. I want every woman I know to read it, because I think it will resonate.

Total books read so far this year: 88. Plus at least one to finish, so 89! Not bad. I may read one more just to make it to a round 90.

And according to my AO3 history, I've read 1466 fics (some more than once) but of course that doesn't count what I've read on FF.net because I made a few GW and Yugioh excursions over there this year.

My To Read list keeps getting longer, but I make progress...in some fashion, though I'm easily distracted. I've picked up Nirvana in Fire because I got hit with a sudden nostalgia for Chinese historical dramas and have been told repeatedly this is the best ever. My mom has seen it (among many, many others) and agrees it's good; so far, I'm enjoying it a lot! At some point in the future, I may attempt The Story of Yanxi Palace. We'll see though.

Books, September - October 2018Collapse )

Currently working on finishing the Kate Daniels series (2 more books to go!).

Ahh this is belated, because September ended up busier than expected. But here is the book post for the past three months. Though it wasn't quite the voracious reading I did in the first half of the year, I still made a decent effort through the summer, I think. Fewer series probably contributed to that, but it was nice to read some standalone things.

I read a lot and probably should've put up a post after April, but oh well. Here's a huge dump of the last three months. Trying to keep up reading a lot this year, a whole mix of books!

Books, March-May 2018Collapse )

I also read a novel-length Dresden Files fic that basically read like original to me (okay...barring the m/m brothercest), and I wanna argue that it should count. But I guess I'll leave this for now.
