My Seminar experience

Last week I traveled to NYC to see Justin Long in Seminar on Broadway. I've been struggling to arrange my trip until departure from Japan, and luckily I was able to be there on May 3. I can't believe to have made it because I almost missed my chance ot trip.
So, I've seen Seminar on May 3 and May 4. I had a ticket for another play of May 4 too and I could choose it, but on May 3 I was a little sick and couldn't concentrate on the play well nor wait for cast signing out of the theater. So I chose to see Seminar again and this time could join cast signing. I didn't try a chat with Justin nor ask him for picture with me 'cause I am a (very) shy person and have a problem with language. But I got his sign on Playbill (of course signs of other cast too, only missing Ms. Park's sign). That was my first experience of foreign celebrites.

Also, needless to say, Justin was super cute! I didn't think he would be such a cutie from the near view :) He said "thank you" and "I am Justin Long" in my language Japanese, that was adorable. Plus, he seemed so nice to every fan there. The play and the cast was really great and it's sad that the play closed yesterday.

The Ex and The Fiance ～ Slashy Justin Long imagination from "One Slight Hitch"

"One　Slight Hitch"というのは、昨年の夏にWilliamstown Theatre Festival　で上演されたお芝居である。
当時、Justinの情報がなかなか入ってこないのを淋しく思った私は、夏休みを利用しマサチューセッツ州のWilliamstownへお芝居を見に行った。内容的には、英語がよく聞き取れない私でもおおよそのストーリーが分かるコメディで、とても楽しかったというのが感想。

そして何より、行く前から私に異様な（？）期待を持たせたのは、Peter Bergmanという人による、以下のようなレビューだった。
Justin Long plays Ryan, the former boy-friend Courtney would rather forget.Long is wonderful in a role that calls for him to practically cross-dress, philosophize while making Delia into a madwoman, and ultimately "bond" with Cole's Harper in a way that makes a homosexual seduction seem practically possible in every way.

えっえっ"cross-dress"ってつまり女装ってこと？”homosexual seduction"ってなに？

そのへんは後述するとして、まずは登場人物の紹介を。

時は８０年代、アメリカの中流家庭Coleman家は、長女Courtneyの結婚の日を迎え、準備にいそしんでいた。そこへ、そうとは知らない長女のかつてのボーイフレンド、Ryan（Justin Long）がふらりと現れ、騒動になっていく…

このお芝居を書いたのはLewis Blackというおじさんで、実はJustinの代表作"Accepted"で共演している（あの、学生達にいろいろ教えるメンターみたいな人ね）。
Lewis氏がお芝居についてのインタビューの中で、Justinのことを"the kid from Accepted"と言っていたのがちょっとイイ。
何歳になっても、年下の男の子はkidなんだね!

７人のキャストの中で主役と言えるのは、父ドクを演じたMark Linn-Bakerで、Justinも前半はこのおじさんとの絡みが中心。

おじさんとＲｙａｎとの間には、当然ながら特別あやしい要素はないんだけど、Justinとおっさんの絡みが大好きな（？）私にとっては結構ツボでした。

写真は無いけど、Ryanが「だからさぁ～、頼むよ」みたいなノリでおじさんの手にキスしちゃうシーンもあり、これも私的にはドツボでした！

ちなみにJustin、最初の方のシーンはほとんど半裸です。
Ｃｏｕｒｔｎｅｙの妹Melanieに腰タオルを取られる爆笑シーンがこちら。

あと、写真を見ていてちょっと思ったんだけど…

さて物語が後半に入ると、いよいよＣｏｕｒｔｎｅｙの婚約者Ｈａｒｐｅｒ登場！
上品なエリートながら、気取った鼻につくタイプ。
婚約者Ｃｏｕｒｔｎｅｙとその母親以外、家族の誰からも好かれてなさそうなＨａｒｐｅｒだが、元彼Ｒｙａｎとは、なぜか最初からバッチリうまが合ってしまう。

まじめでエリートなHarperと、ちょっとワイルドなチャーミングさのあるＲｙａｎは、見ていてなかなかslashyでした。前述のレビューで"homosexual seduction"なんて先入観を持ってしまっていたからかもしれませんが、特にＨａｒｐｅｒの方がRyanを気に入ってる感じが。Harperがソファから起ち上がる時、なにげにＲｙａｎの太腿をパットしたりするところなんかいかにもね。

あとそれっぽかったシーンとしては、Ｈａｒｐｅｒが指を口に当てて思わしげに"what do you feel...?"
これに対しＲｙａｎの方も"what do I feel...?"と言いながら、座位から体を滑らせてソファの上に寝転がっちゃうところ。まるでベッドに誘ってるみたい!!（残念ながら写真なし）
その場面では他の観客からも微かなどよめきが起きたので、homosexualなニュアンスが入ってたのは間違いないと思います！（作者が意図していたかは不明）

物語の結末としては、Courtneyは婚約者Harperとも元彼Ryanともくっつかないんだけどね。

ＨａｒｐｅｒとＲｙａｎのその後は描かれませんでしたが、私の中では昨夏以来、ＨａｒｐｅｒがＣｏｕｒｔｎｅｙと暮らすはずだった新居にＲｙａｎを誘い込んで同居を始め…なんていうficが出来上がってます。（文章書けないので実現はしませんが）
