A new magazine showcasing the arts scene in northern Alberta and British Columbia has debuted. The Article, launched by Grande Prairie photojournalist Jesse Boily and artist Melanie Jenner, is a free monthly arts and culture magazine connecting both provinces. The region’s last art-centric print publication, The Art of the Peace, printed its final issue in 2016. Newspaper circulation has also declined across Alberta, with 68 news outlets closing since 2008.

Registration is now open for the 2026 Editors Canada Conference, Editing in the Age of Misinformation, May 21 – 23 at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. “Misinformation isn’t just about fake news.  The Canadian Wildlife Federation (CWF) has announced the winners of its 2025 Reflections of Nature Photo Contest. With roughly 10,600 entries received over a three-month period, the popular program demonstrates the deep connection Canadians feel towards wildlife and habitat conservation. The award-winning photos in five categories will be featured in CWF’s Canadian Wildlife and Biosphère Magazines, as well as on the charitable organization’s website, blog, and social-media channels.

The Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ) Newsroom Diversity Survey is back for a 6th consecutive year. “Journalism’s democratic role depends on reaching and representing everyone, not only the most visible or powerful groups,” said Brent Jolly, CAJ President. “Research has shown us that audiences are more likely to trust news organizations that see them and listen to them. The survey is about helping news organizations remain connected and resilient to the communities they serve.” The deadline for newsrooms to complete the survey is Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

After 82 years of ownership by two generations of the Tracey family, The Eganville Leader has been sold. Current publisher Gerald Tracey signed an agreement in early February with Ray Stanton, President of London Publishing, and John Hueston, publisher of the Aylmer Express. Stanton’s company publishes newspapers in Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan. The transaction becomes effective March 1, 2026.
