Welcome to Maria Pieretti Therapy

I’m Maria. Thank you for visiting my website. Central to therapy is talking to someone who offers understanding and acceptance. Being really heard, sometimes for the first time, allows us to unload some of our burdens. I have always wanted to help people and have extensive experience working with young adults for over 20 years, which has given me lots of techniques which I use today in my therapy room.
I specialise in OCD, Anxiety, Self-Harm, Anger and Coaching Therapy, and I also help couples who are struggling in their relationships. The techniques I use will help you to understand that you don’t have to cope with it, live with it or let it define you. There are other ways to control it, and one way is through therapy. Sessions are either face-to-face or via Zoom online.

OCD

OCD – Obsessive, Compulsive Disorder. OCD is a disorder in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas, sensations and behaviours.
Some people have habits or superstitions, for example people often avoid walking under ladders, or touch wood to fend off bad luck. But it is when these obsessions and compulsions become more extreme and begin to impact on your everyday life that they are then described as OCD.
Anxiety

Anxiety in a feeling that we all experience at times. It is a word we use to describe when we are feeling nervous, tense, uptight or irritable. When anxious, we often worry for long periods of time, so much that our worry can feel out of control.
Self-Harm
Self-harm is an act of deliberately harming your own body. It is a way for some, to cope with emotional pain, anger, overwhelming and distressing thoughts or feelings. Self-harm should be taken seriously, whatever the reason behind it.
Anger Therapy

Anger is an emotion that we can all feel from time to time. It can become a problem when the anger starts to impact on our everyday life, when it gets too extreme, lasts for too long or occurs at inappropriate times, resulting in shouting, screaming or hitting out.
Couples Therapy

Whether you are having trouble in your relationship, or would just like to understand your partner better, talking things through with someone can really help. It can offer you a supportive, caring confidential space to talk.
Coaching

Coaching, unlike therapy, can offer a more engaging approach to self-development, where the interaction can be one of offering information, advice, mentoring and guidance, as well as using the therapeutic side of self-reflection. Coaching is flexible, solution-focused and gives us the freedom to talk around different topics without focusing on just one element of your life. It can help with major life decisions, changing careers or even setting boundaries with family
