I have locked and unlocked posts. Friend me (and let me know who you are if it's not obvious) if you you want more content.

So if you haven't figured out by now i didn't get the job i interviewed for. I haven't put that much effort into the next round yet, but hope to send out a few more CVs before Pennsic. I don't know exactly what I'm looking for (research? Academia vs industry. Dreaming the professor dream, teach somewhere else. Something unknown to me but cool with computers and bio). Hopefully i'll know my next step when i find it. I have little illusion of a lifelong "career."

My lab is headlong into the moving process. I'm switched officially over to the new hospital, the last of my lab to do so. Thankfully crazy lady is NOT coming wiith us. So orientation and benefits stuff is set and we have plans for our space. We can't get in until the end of August, but that gives us time to deal with all the sciencey move stuff (mice, cells, chemicals).

I had my last sprint triathlon for the summer this past weekend. Sort of. I a had major flat. At least it was in transition so no accident, but it was a giant fiasco and by the time i got it fixed I decided it was too late and i just went right onto the run. I had a good swim and met my goal of beating childsplay7 out of the water even though her age group started 3 minutes before mine. Since Pennsic is right when i need to be doing the most training, my goal is to bike 100 miles and run 25 in these two weeks before i leave (that's ~4x the length of my tri). 13 and 4 down so far. And even though i'm crazy and considered bringing my bike to Pennsic; even i realized that was ridiculous. I would love to get in as much running as possible and would love anyone to join/motivate me. Also considering heading up to the state park for a swim, but swimming's already my strongest leg.

And thus to Pennsic. I'm mentally ready to go now. Of course i'm not anywhere near packed, and i need to wrap up stuff in the lab. But i'm so looking foward to it. This will be equal or greater to the longest time I've been at Pennsic (and that was Pennsic XXXI and i don't recall if i got there Tuesday or Wednesday). I'm arriving either Monday or Tuesday depending on what's going on in NJ. Going see friends and visit family especially my Grandma who is, well, old (92). Hopefully i can also see some more of my friends' babies who i saw for about an hour over 4th of July weekend. So yay Pennsic. And as I've been telling everyone, this is my 10th SCAnniversary. Yes, Pennsic XXX was my first event.

At least for the near future, I won't have to try to explain where LT grew up because Monson is all over the news right now. Tom's parents were already on their way here to take us out to dinner for our birthdays and stopped at his sister's since the kids were home alone. The power went out there, and there was damage in Sturbridge but all were fine there. My in-laws stayed there last night since there were reports of road closures. Since they haven't been home yet, no report on if their place had any damage.

But instead I posted something rather old over at my other blog.

Mini-Sprint 3 Weeks out....

This is race always the wake up call. Am I ever really ready for this race? No, but it's a good motivation to get myself back to biking and running early in the season. I keep creeping closer and closer to breaking that one hour mark. And L and I are always neck and neck (though I'm sure she would have done better last year if she wasn't injured). Below are out last two years' results. This race's results are always a bit hard to judge speeds because they don't split out transition time....ie post swim: get out of pool, run to the bike, put on shoes/helmet/sunglasses/jacket (if cold); post-bike: run back to rack it, snack?, change shoes, take off helmet (there's always a few people who forget to do this).

    Swim Bike Run Overall
Place Time Place Time Place Time Place Time
2009 L 342 9:47 303 30:36 299 22:53 308 1:03:17
  I 130 7:14 329 31:55 369 26:10 329 1:05:21
2010 L 337 9:17 253 30:14 360 24:33 320 1:04:05
  I 108 6:55 342 33:18 329 23:22 310 1:03:36

Not sure if I can run a sub-10min mile. I'd like to see a bike of >14mph. Who will come in ahead this time? (Ok, I always come in ahead because it's staggered start by swim time, but of course I mean racing time) Will either of us finally do a sub-1 hr race? No pressure  childsplay7 !!!

I decided to set a blog for the scribal stuff. It's totally a work in progress at the moment. Hopefully more content will come. If you want me to link your A&S/SCA blog (or unlink it if it's already on there), LMK.
Enjoy the blog!

Cranberry Race Report

Full Race ReportCollapse )

My time was super slow. But I don’t really care. The upcoming half-marathon has got to be cake compared to this. I think I’m my own hero. I had no idea it was going to be as rough as it was, but I finished. And I’d do it again. But with a better training plan. Can’t avoid the unfortunate fact that if I wanted to do this race again, it’s two weeks after Pennsic, but how else will I know if I improved?

P.S. I wanted everyone to see this and not have to repost it in different places so I *am* cross-posting this to FB. Still haven't figured out what my long-term stance on my personal journal is especially since I mostly comment and rarely post, but don't worry: This is not the default on my journal or comments, I'm doing this manually. Since people seem to be figuring out their own comfort level with this, I'm leaving the comments screened, and leave me a note in your comment if you don't want it unscreened.

Ok LJ world.
Settle a score for me with LT.
Rank the Star War Movies 1-6 (or 1-3 if you're of that school)
I'll let you know who wins.
