If anyone's wondering, we did get a new greyhound. His name is Reid and he's from the same track in West Virginia that Echo came off of. I looked him up and turns out they had the same owner. I would love it if they knew each other on the track and here they are, reunited. We're thinking they're related because albeit Reid has about ten pounds and more than a few inches on Echo, they have similar markings (both brindle).
He's probably about eighty pounds, his legs are 29 inches, he loves to run and jump and give kisses (before or after cleaning the litter box for you, doesn't matter). He likes to swim! I love that we finally have a dog that loves water! Stampede, Alex and Bruno hated it and Echo shakes when I give him a bath.
Unfortunately, since the three dogs before this were abnormally smart I guess we were due for run-of-the-mill ones intelligent-wise. So, yeah, they're not very smart. Reid ate the Directv remote the other day and Echo is enjoying having a buddy that will get him stuff he can't reach (such as a FULL LOAF OF BREAD!) There are clear differences and that's been an adjustment. It's still quite surreal to me that this time last year, both Alex and Bruno were here and now, there's a brand new set. It doesn't seem right and when I think about it, I cry. It's not that I don't love Echo and Reid, I do and they're very entertaining but Alex was with us for about nine years and Bruno for about five and they were Alex and Bruno. Our Halloween Dogs, Alex with his red fawn coat and Bruno with his black. Alex, who I taught to climb stairs; Bruno, who bit me in the eye; both who we tried to save with medication and endless amounts of love. But they're not here anymore and that breaks my heart more than I will ever be able to put into words.
