We’ve hosted three events in conjunction with this exhibition.

On December 20, 2015, the supremely talented Damon Locks performed  a sonic response to the exhibition which he produced.  SOUNDS LIKE NOW, an audio piece by Damon Locks feat. Damien Thompson, took place inside the exhibition, Making Niggers: Demonizing and Distorting Blackness Through Racist Postcards and Images.

“I have been listening and thinking and rethinking. Yesteryear and today have been blurring into each other. I have record after record where people express eloquently their fight for freedom, justice and equality. Regardless of when it was recorded, it sounds like now. Take the needle off the record, back up and start again”. – Damon

Photos from the event can be seen here.

On January 31,2016,  we hosted a panel discussion and closing reception for the exhibition.  The panel discussion focused on how we are making #BlackLivesMatter in Chicago. We were  thrilled to be joined for this discussion by some of the key organizers in the city who are part of the movement for Black lives. Photos from the event taken by Sarah Jane Rhee can be found here.
