College Admission Parenting…Like A Boss
CapLab is a small-cohort group course for parents of 8th, 9th and 10th grade students. Most of the time, students don’t really need hands-on college counseling until the second semester of 10th grade. But we understand that YOU have questions as a parent, and you'd like to get answers to them sooner rather than later! This course will help you understand what's changed in college admission over the past years, and how you can prepare yourself, and your student, for what has become a very competitive, and often stressful process. It's four group sessions, live on Zoom, and then a one-on-one meeting with Magellan founder Evelyn Jerome-Alexander with your family, where you can get answers to all of your questions, and where we can make a plan for how to move forward. You can learn more about CapLab and sign up here.
College App ZAP
This is our budget-friendly options for rising seniors ONLY. ZAP students will access three recorded seminars and download templates to get their college applications started. After you’ve finished the homework from all three sessions, you’ll schedule your four one-on-one meetings with one of our counselors, who will help you balance your college list, draft powerful activities descriptions and brainstorm and develop your essays. We’ll also read through a final draft of your personal statement when you’re ready. Additionally, you'll get a one-on-one meeting with Magellan founder Evelyn Jerome-Alexander to discuss college cost and financial aid, specific to your family's situation.
ZAP includes four meetings with a counselor, and costs $1295. You can add time if you need. All the info and register here!
Career Counseling
Some families want to get started with career counseling when their student is still in high school! For others, waiting until the student has started their college experience is better timing. Whichever is right for you, Magellan College Counseling offers support. Choose from several package options to help launch your student into the career that fits them best! We'll guide them through the maze of resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn profiles, networking and interview skills. Learn more about Career Compass, our career counseling services, here.

IEC Coaching and Consulting
Are you newer to the profession, or a sole practitioner looking for a gut check, a list check, or someone to review an essay with you? Are you "full" and considering leveling up your business?
I’ve been an IEC for 15 years, and I teach in UC Berkeley’s Professional Program in College Consulting. I manage a team of 18 counselors, and I spend a lot of my time collaborating with them about their clients. I’ve realized that newer IECs sometimes wish they could “Phone-a-Friend,” or have someone with whom to bounce around ideas.
That’s why I’m offering hourly coaching for IECs. Think of it as a chance to have a supportive partner in your corner—someone who understands the challenges of this profession and can share practical tips, strategies, and encouragement. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to grow and streamline your practice, I’d love to help you build confidence and feel even more energized in the amazing work you do.
What Makes Magellan’s College Counseling Services Different?
We are frequently asked what makes our services different than those offered by other independent college counselors. We believe three things make Magellan stand out:
- Magellan counselors approach our work with students as a two-phase process. The first phase is “College Search,” in which we assist students in researching the colleges that fit them academically, socially and emotionally. The second phase is “College Applications,” in which we help students complete all the tasks they need to complete to successfully submit each application on time.
- All of our counselors are actively involved with multiple professional organizations that focus on college counseling as a profession. This means we are constantly refreshing our knowledge, visiting colleges and meeting with college admission officers.
- Magellan has eighteen counselors in our practice, and we discuss our clients as a team on a regular basis. You’ll have one lead counselor, but you’ll receive the benefit of all of our counselors’ years of experience as we work with your child through the college search process. Frequently, we ask our Magellan counselor colleagues to read our students' essay(s), giving them a fresh set of eyes and a new perspective.
Let’s see how we can reduce the stress of your child's college search and application process.
