I come back. And if my LJ gets bahleeted, I'm also at cmayyin.blogspot.com.

I feel a little sickened, both by the decision and this *wildly gleeful* reaction. It's not like Lina Joy went around or will go around killing teh Muslimz. She doesn't kick puppies (unless you're suggesting she should, seeing dog drool is uncleeeean). She's not traversing the world blaring the goodness of Jesus through a bullhorn. She just believes that she has found a different Higher Power, and would like to marry someone she loves without forcing him into another religion.

This warrants the quotation that made George Bernard Shaw my hero:
Religion is a great force: the only real motive force in the world; but what you fellows don’t understand is that you must get at a man through his own religion and not through yours.

Maybe Allah just isn't Lina's (G)od any more, and she does have the freedom of religion under the Constitution. I can live with that. But the woman is not a murderer; she is not a rapist; she is not guilty of making jokes about dangling pipes or pepper-spraying celebrities. Bit overmuch?

While I am but a polytheistic little heathen who knows NOTHING of Islam and should mind my own beeswax (if you follow the logic of places such as menj.org), I maintain that somewhere up beyond the clouds, Yahweh, Allah, the Hindu Trinity, the Jade Emperor and a handful of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are all either laughing their blessed heads off or just shaking them sadly.

(Also, I'd never seen a 'dun like dun read! DDD:' special snowflake outside of fandoms...until today. Non-denomination deity on a flatbread, this is Spartarific madness!

After a long period of doing neither, I started two things up again: writing to Delilah, back from the Saiyuuki days, and playing DragonFable. A postcard came back from her in the mail today - and believe it or not, I could recognise it sitting on top of the pile in the postbox all the way from the upstairs window. :D I'm actually really touched that she's not offended it took so long for me to thank her for her birthday gift (like LAST YRZ PY OMG). She even added 'After all, UM2000-san and me will always be good friends'. Thanks Delilah-san. TT^TT You're really somethin'.

I hope she's doing OK. She's not the type to make so many spelling mistakes per postcard, my surname aside..I really must bring that up with her the next time I write. 'Tis a G, lady, not a Y! D:

I had an incredibly frustrating dream last night, and let's just say all concerned should be really happy that panda_patroldoesn't have an older brother in real life. LU ES AND PROG PLZ TO SHUT UP

OH YA I FORGOT. I gots me a new phone!

The other day I met up with fellow squee-filled Ultrafangirl Lynn at Sunway Pyramid. I brought my sketchbook full of fluffy doodles to show her, plus the latest volume of Ouran High Host Club to show her the pseudo-UM appearances (hint: Last chapter volume 9, Tamaki's food-toy collection) ; she brought the Utraman Story 0 volume 3 that she borrowed from another Singaporean fan called Yoshi. For those who have not heard of Story 0 - it's thoroughly endorsed by yours truly. Great art, a solid story (although certain details taken as canon so far are conspicuously missing) and great art I worship Mabune Shinji. A fun hour was had by all as we hooted, squeed and translated stuff. I collapsed in laughter when she pointed out the EXTREMELY pretty human form of Ultraman near the end of the book. Not handsome: PRETTY. I guess you had to be there.

Read more...Collapse )

Oh yeah, I went and reviewed the Ultraman Mebius & Ultra Brothers movie. Go and see if you dare. *laughter from bowels of hell*

Joo hoo char is a mix of cuttlefish, turnips and shiitake mushrooms, all fried nicely together and eaten with rice or in little lettuce (sang choy sounds like live and prosper - please no Spock jokes) packages. It's my favourite dish in the entire universe (mostly because of them thar turnips) but it's highly labour-intensive and my grandmother's getting a bit too old to prepare it this year...so my uncle made it. It tasted very strongly of fat, for some reason. This is one of those dishes I want to learn how to make before chow-ing off somewhere overseas.

And what's CNY dinner without a nice sweet mandarin orange afterwards, hm?

As for how it's going with work - well, things could have been worse, and could have been better. :/ More on this a bit later, but suffice it to say I'm alive and I owe seizacchi about two pots of tea when we meet up tomorrow. Tanoshimi! *rubs hands in glee*

So I DID manage to take a successful nap last night—woke up, and all—but it did result in some very strange (if very nice) dreams afterwards. My good friends Lu, Es and Prog, did we not discuss this issue very carefully? We do not want any repetitions of last year's Hikoboshi Incidents. Settle down, give it a few years. We'll all get satisfaction eventually. I hope. Sneaking Ultraman into those dreams does nothing. Particularly if you snuck in Gekiden trading cards and Mebius Burning Brave figures, but a pirated Taro that looked nothing like him. Tch. I thought better of my subconscious.

So I promised y'all I'd keep a count of how many times Rico Chan said 'okaaay' in the first two hours of his lectures, right? Well, it wasn't so bad. He didn't drag it out, and he only started inserting it every third word when he got excited. It was a fun sharing session, anyways. All in all, he said the word over 100 times, and his final count is about 1.6 okays-per-minute. (Of course, I should talk. If I was relating this to you verbally, every third word would have been 'like'. :P)

Aaaanyway. Part of the lecture involved asking people what creativity was, and what the value/purpose of creativity was. As the lecturer put it, why do clients hire us? After much debate up and down and various oh-so-close(?) answers, he delivered his answer: it makes more money. And really, that's all there is to it.

Somehow, this doesn't sound right to me. I mean, sure, we're all going to end up creating commercial art of some sort; that's how we're going to earn our rice/bread/carbs. But that can't be the be-all and end-all of things. Even if you are creative, and you make piles of money, if you hate your work, hate what you do and have to drag yourself to the computer/easel/storyboard every morning...I hate to break it to you, but you probably shouldn't be doing this for the next 30 years. Call me a bit idealistic, but the last bit is common sense. If you're going to be slogging, it might as well be for something you really love. Then it won't even be a slog. To me, the greatest value of creativity is that it improves the quality of life. I figure that counts as making you happy, making things easier and serving as a coping mechanism. The world stops dead without its engine of imagination and thought.

And don't tell, but one thing I did want to define creativity as was 'eating dirt and shitting diamonds'. ;)
