the Lucent Team

Our Story

Est. 2003

At Lucent Design Co, we take our work seriously but not ourselves.

As a team, we enjoy meaningful work that balances design and function. We want to give you a website that looks great and generates leads, sales, or donations. Our team is small and focused, which allows us to offer cost-effective solutions to companies we believe in.

When you work with us, we’ll partner with you because we understand that the best marketing comes from a collaborative approach. That means we take the time to get to know your organization and create designs and campaigns that speak directly to your customers.

We love working with organizations that put good into the world and value the relationships we’ve gained in that process.

Location

midwest hustle

In the heart of the 417

Our company was founded in 2003 as Prodigy Pixel. What started out as an idea over lunch breaks, turned side-hustle, finally grew into a full-service design studio in 2006. After a dozen years of growing the team and serving our clients, we were up for a new challenge. In 2019, we relocated, rebranded, changed ownership, and changed our name to Lucent Design Co.

Our office is located in Southwest Missouri, on the old Route 66, and we’ve been working in Downtown Springfield since 2007. We have come to love the small downtown vibe, delicious eats, and the Downtown Wiffle League.

Aaron Van Gorp
Co-founder, Managing Director

Aaron is a third-culture kid (TCK) who oddly grew up as a computer nerd and jock. He somehow graduated with a Computer Science degree from a liberal arts school shortly before co-founding the company. He's a 3x DWL HR Derby Champion and prefers his frites with mayo.

I have no ambition to preside over a vast bureaucracy. That is why we have only nineteen clients. The pursuit of excellence is less profitable than the pursuit of bigness, but it can be more satisfying.
—David Ogilvy
"Father of Advertising"
Elizabeth

"Most wonderful time of the year...

football season."

Elizabeth Harrison
Designer

Elizabeth grew up in the southeastern US, but spent junior high as a MK, mercifully tucked away in rural southern Africa. She graduated university with a double-major, due to being both an overachiever and chronically indecisive. She married her ski instructor and they're raising three boys on the east cost of Canada.

There was a boy called Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and he almost deserved it.

Alexa

"Welcome to the real world!

It sucks. You're gonna love it!"

Alexa Russo
Designer

At the age of five, Alexa's career as a singer was cut short when her mom broke the news that she couldn't carry a tune. Eventually, Alexa decided to study psychology. Now, she's a proudly tone-deaf graphic designer.

The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.

Matt

"Everyboy

Love Everybody!"

Matt Ward
Designer

Matt was born and raised by a pack of wild wolves in remote Southeast Kansas, where he would remain until his journey Eastward to Springfield. He attended Missouri State University and received a degree in Graphic Design, throwing away his chances to become a professional wiffleball player. He remains conflicted to this day.

In the anals of history people are going to be talking about three things: the discovery of fire, invention of the submarine, and the Flint, Michigan Mega Bowl.
