Cleansed by Blood, Polluted by Choice
The blood of Jesus Christ is the most powerful cleansing agent ever known to humanity.
Through His sacrifice, sinners are washed, justified, and declared righteous before God.
Yet many believers who have been cleansed by His blood deliberately return to sinful lifestyles, worldly patterns, and ungodly habits.
This is the tragic reality of cleansed by blood, polluted by choice.
Revelation 1:5, Hebrews 10:22, Isaiah 1:18, 2 Peter 2:20-22, Romans 12:1-2
Salvation is God’s gift, but sanctification is our responsibility.
While Christ has washed us completely, remaining clean requires obedience, discipline, and a conscious decision to walk in holiness.
“Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood.” – Revelation 1:5 (KJV)
1. THE POWER OF THE BLOOD THAT CLEANSES
The blood of Jesus does what no ritual, sacrifice, or self-effort could accomplish:
* It washes away sin (Hebrews 9:14)
* It justifies the guilty (Romans 5:9)
* It reconciles us to God (Colossians 1:20)
* It purifies the conscience (Hebrews 10:22)
Isaiah declared:
“Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow...” – Isaiah 1:18
When a sinner repents, God does not partially clean — He completely restores. The blood speaks better things than the blood of Abel (Hebrews 12:24).
2. POLLUTED BY CHOICE: WHEN GRACE IS ABUSED
Despite this cleansing, many choose to return to spiritual filth:
* Secret sins
* Immorality
* Bitterness and unforgiveness
* Worldly compromise
* Hypocrisy
Peter warns:
“For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord... they are again entangled therein...” – 2 Peter 2:20
This is not accidental pollution; it is deliberate disobedience.
Grace is not a license to sin, but power to overcome it (Romans 6:1-2).
3. HOW BELIEVERS BECOME SPIRITUALLY POLLUTED
a) Neglect of Prayer and Word
When devotion weakens, desire for holiness fades (Matthew 26:41).
b) Wrong Associations
Evil communication corrupts good manners (1 Corinthians 15:33).
c) Compromise with the World
Loving the world makes one an enemy of God (James 4:4).
d) Hardened Conscience
Repeated sin dulls conviction (1 Timothy 4:2).
4. CHOOSING HOLINESS IS A DAILY DECISION
Holiness does not happen by accident; it is a choice.
“Present your bodies a living sacrifice… and be not conformed to this world” – Romans 12:1-2
Every day we choose:
* Obedience or rebellion
* Purity or compromise
* Spirit or flesh
* Life or corruption
God provides the cleansing, but we must guard the purity.
5. THE DANGER OF RETURNING TO FILTH
Scripture gives a strong warning:
“The dog is turned to his own vomit again...” – 2 Peter 2:22
To return to sin after cleansing is spiritual betrayal.
It crucifies Christ afresh (Hebrews 6:4-6) and grieves the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30).
6. THE PATH BACK TO PURITY
If anyone has been polluted:
* Repent genuinely (1 John 1:9)
* Confess without excuses
* Renounce old habits
* Reconnect to spiritual disciplines
* Submit to accountability
God restores the broken, but He expects a surrendered heart.
You were not cleansed to become careless.
You were not washed to wallow in dirt. The blood of Jesus paid too high a price for believers to live in cheap grace.
The tragedy is not that Christ failed to cleanse — it is that men choose to be polluted again.
Today, choose purity. Choose holiness. Choose obedience.
“Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” – Matthew 5:8
ALTAR CALL / PRAYER
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your precious blood that washed me clean. I renounce every sin that seeks to pollute my soul. Restore my hunger for holiness and strengthen me to walk in obedience. I choose purity. I choose righteousness. I choose Christ. Amen.
