A Prayer to Jesus
When the light of Your cross shone, O only-begotten of the Father, we no longer saw death, but beheld the light of eternal life shining upon us. For You, our God, are the destruction of death and the fountain of life. By Your death, You trampled death and granted life to those in the tombs. You came awaiting our return, and by Your resurrection, You granted us the grace of repentance and the joy of eternal salvation.
O Jesus, my life, remove the power of my death.
O crucified Jesus, enlighten my life.
O Jesus, my King, shut the mouth of Hades.
O victorious Jesus, break the bonds of my captivity.
O Jesus, the light, dispel the darkness of my fears.
O sweet Jesus, receive me into Your embrace.
O only Jesus, make me a son of Your Father.
O risen Jesus, grant me the victory of Your life.
O Jesus, Son of God, have mercy on me, Your brother.
Behold, I stand before You in the hour of my departure and at the time of my judgment. I long for You, O my Savior. I desire to die with You to live in Your eternal light. Deliver me from the eternal death of this present world and the coming age. I cry to You with all my voice: Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy, and according to the multitude of Your compassions, blot out my transgressions.
O You who are in the bosom of the Father, receive me as You received the right-hand thief.
O Jesus, who by Your death put death to death, put my death to death.
O Jesus, who in the tomb nullified the power of corruption, nullify it in me.
O Jesus, who rose again, raise me up as the first Adam.
O Jesus, ever-living, make me according to Your likeness.
O sweet Jesus, remove the bitterness of death.
O Jesus, my life, wash away the curse of hatred.
O Jesus, the Life-giver, anoint me with the anointing of my baptism.
O Jesus, the Son, restore me to the rank of sonship.
O only Jesus, make me a partaker of Your inheritance.
O Jesus, Son of God, have mercy on me, Your brother.
Open for me the door to the Father, that I may enter and delight in His glory. Grant that I may pass by the station of the Accuser, and that I may see the choirs of angels and the ranks of the patriarchs. Make me worthy to sing to You with all the saints at all times:
O Jesus, accept me as an offering to Your Father.
O Jesus, make me worthy to die for Your name's sake.
O Jesus, open my senses to behold Your glory.
O Jesus, help my weakness so I may not falter.
O Jesus, lead me through the shadows of death.
O Jesus, grant me to stretch out my neck to the sword without fear.
O Jesus, strengthen my soul to choose suffering freely.
O Jesus, fortify my will to forget the world.
O Jesus, sanctify my soul that I may become a sacrifice for Your love.
O Jesus, bless me to bear Your name worthily.
O Jesus, illumine for me the path of the resurrection.
O Jesus, give me Your hands that I may die in peace.
O Jesus, my King, I entrust my soul into Your name.
O Jesus, seal me with Your cross upon my soul and body.
O Jesus, You have chosen me for tribulations.
O Jesus, You have blessed me with the blessing of Your saints.
O Jesus, You have loved me to be in the procession of Your martyrs.
O Jesus, Son of God, have mercy on me, Your brother.
Behold, I draw near to receive You at my departure, and I seek refuge in the shadow of Your wings at the time of my judgment. I cry to You, O God, have mercy on me.
O Jesus, accept my confession to You.
O Jesus, bless my repentance.
O Jesus, Son of God, have mercy on me, Your brother.
Glory to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
