I call you my friends, says the Lord, for I have made known to you all that the Father has told me.
John 15:15
REFLECTION
Some may find Jesus' idea of friendship strange. He says we become His friends by following His commands. If you told a friend that, they might find it odd. So, does true friendship rely on obedience?

Naturally, expecting friends to obey you to gain friendship isn't real friendship. Only Jesus can offer friendship through obeying His divine will, because His commands are perfect.

Jesus represents Truth, and His will aims for perfect love. By stating we’re His friends when we follow His commands, He shows true friendship is based on truth. It is built on love, kindness, selflessness, and generosity—principles Jesus teaches us. Thus, His will is the path to the friendship we seek with Him.

When it comes to friendships with others, true bonds must align with God's desires for friends. This aligns your relationships with God’s will, choosing friendships rooted in truth, sacrifice, mercy, compassion, honesty, and love.

Today, think about what friendship means to you. Begin with your relationship with God, then look at your other relationships. Do you love God as He asks? In your friendships, do they align with God’s will? Loving God and others rightly leads to lasting fulfillment.
