And one of the king of Israel's servants answered and said, Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah. 2 Kings 3:11 BIBLE READING: 2 KINGS 2:1-14 (KJV) 1 And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal. 2 And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Beth-el. And Elisha said unto him, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Bethel. 3 And the sons of the prophets that were at Beth-el came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he said, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace. 4 And Elijah said unto him, Elisha, tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Jericho. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho. 5 And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho came to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he answered, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace. 6 And Elijah said unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here; for the LORD hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on. 7 And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view afar off: and they two stood by Jordan. 8 And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground. 9 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me. 10 And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so. 11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. 12 And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces. 13 He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan; 14 And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over. MESSAGE: When a piece of wood is set on fire, it burns. Similarly, a fellow who has given his or her life to Jesus Christ can burn for Him, and the fire that burns in such a believer is the power of the Holy Spirit. There are two ways by which a believer can catch fire: directly from God, just like Moses and Elijah, or through other people who have caught the fire of God and have become fire carriers. For example, Joshua received his fire from Moses (Deuteronomy 34:9), and Elisha received his from Elijah (1 Kings 19:19). Joshua was called Moses' servant (Joshua 1:1), and wherever Moses went, he was there to serve him. While Joshua served Moses faithfully, the latter laid his hands on him, and he received the spirit of wisdom. If you feel like you are too important to serve those whom God has placed over you, it means that you are not ready to carry the fire of God. Serving Moses could not have been easy, but Joshua willingly paid the price. In Exodus 24:13-18, the Bible says that he went with Moses to Mount Sinai, where they stayed for 40 days and nights. He served Moses wholeheartedly, and when Moses laid his hands upon him, he transferred all the honour and grace he had to him (Numbers 27:18-23). This is why, as a child of God, you must honour those whom God has placed over you. Elisha was another person who received God's fire through honour and service. People knew him as the man who poured water on Elijah's hands (2 Kings 3:11). Despite his wealthy background, he was willing to stoop very low to honour and serve God's prophet, Elijah. While the other sons of the prophets were busy predicting what would happen to Elijah (2 Kings 2:3), Elisha was busy following the man of God and serving him. Eventually, he received a double portion of the anointing that was upon Elijah. Beloved, if you want to be a carrier of the fire of God, you must serve Him wholeheartedly and be willing to also serve and honour the anointed people He has placed over your life. I pray for you today: may you never become too proud to honour and serve those whom God has placed over your life. In the name above every other name, you will carry the fire of God upon your life and do mighty exploits in His kingdom. KEY POINT: Serving and honouring the people whom God has placed over you is a channel through which you can receive His fire. Thank You for the promise and the release of Your fire at Pentecost ‎ ‎✓Father, please let the fire of the Holy Spirit begin to burn from the inside of me to the outside of me and over everyone and everything I lay my hands on, in Jesus' name. ‎ ‎✓Father, please help me to faithfully serve You under anyone you have placed over me as my leader, in Jesus' name. ‎ ‎✓Father, please help me never to feel too important to serve those whom You have placed over me, but to humbly serve in complete obedience to You, in Jesus' name. ‎ ‎✓Father, please help me not to be distracted by the voice of the people around but to remain focused on serving You with all diligence and readiness to obey Your command, in Jesus' name. ‎ ‎✓Father, please help me to wholeheartedly serve, to be willing and ready to go through difficult and hard times with the people You have placed over me as my spiritual leaders, in Jesus' name. ‎ ‎✓Father please help me to honour and to serve those You have placed over me, in my walk with You and my service to man through my secular work, in Jesus' name. ‎ ‎✓Father, please help me not to loose the reward of my service to the anointed ones You have placed over me, in Jesus name. ‎ ‎✓Father, please make my life a carrier of Your fire that I may do mighty exploits in Your kingdom, in Jesus' name. ‎ ‎✓Father, thank You for the life of Your son, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye. ‎ ‎Make him a carrier of Your fire for the rest of his life, in Jesus' name. Bless his children (biological and spiritual).
