𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐬𝐭 ✍️ “𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭— 𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘊𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘭.” Some of us know the weight of choices—like families torn between staying or leaving, workers choosing integrity over income, or believers standing firm when culture shifts; all decisions require counting the cost. Whether we are stepping into faith, returning after drifting, or pressing forward through hardship, the question is not whether the road is easy but about whether following Christ is worth the cost. Jesus declared in 🕮 𝐋𝐮𝐤𝐞 𝟏𝟒:𝟐𝟖, “𝘍𝘰𝘳 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶, 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥 𝘢 𝘵𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳, 𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘵𝘩 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘴𝘵, 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘩 𝘪𝘵?” Christ spoke these words to large crowds eager to follow Him. Before they rushed forward, He urged them to think deeply—discipleship is not a casual decision; it is a costly commitment. To “𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘴𝘵” means to evaluate the price before taking the step. Jesus used a simple yet striking illustration: a builder who begins a tower but cannot finish it. In ancient times, an unfinished tower became a public embarrassment—a monument to poor planning. Likewise, a half-hearted walk with Christ leaves us unstable and easily shaken when trials come. Scripture repeatedly reminds us that following God requires sacrifice. Jesus said, “𝘞𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘰𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘥𝘰𝘵𝘩 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘮𝘦, 𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘮𝘺 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘪𝘱𝘭𝘦” (𝐋𝐮𝐤𝐞 𝟏𝟒:𝟐𝟕). Paul echoes this truth: “𝘠𝘦𝘢, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘥𝘭𝘺 𝘪𝘯 𝘊𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘑𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘴 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘴𝘶𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯” (𝟐 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝟑:𝟏𝟐). The Christian life is not built on convenience but on commitment. The cross is not an accessory—it is a calling. The Christian path is not easy, yet the Bible also reveals that what we gain far outweighs what we give. Jesus promised, “𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘩 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘴𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘯 𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘴, 𝘰𝘳 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘦𝘯… 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘺 𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘦’𝘴 𝘴𝘢𝘬𝘦, 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘦𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘯 𝘩𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘧𝘰𝘭𝘥, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘪𝘯𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘵 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦” (𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐰 𝟏𝟗:𝟐𝟗). Like a traveler trading temporary comfort for a priceless treasure, the believer discovers that the cost is high—but Christ is higher. Jesus Himself paid the ultimate cost for us. He left the glory of heaven, took on human flesh, and endured the cross. He knew the cost—and decided you were worth it. “𝘍𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘦 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘓𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘑𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘴 𝘊𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵, 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘩, 𝘺𝘦𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘴𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴 𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘰𝘳, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘺 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘩” (𝟐 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝟖:𝟗). He paid the price so we could have the prize. So, the question is not whether He counted the cost for you, but whether you will count the cost for Him. You don't need Christ just to add comfort to your life; you need Him to be your life. The crowds once followed Jesus for miracles, but only true disciples stayed for the cross. The cost is real. But He is worth it all. When we truly see His worth, counting the cost becomes counting the gain. 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫: Heavenly Father, help me to follow Christ with a sincere and faithful heart.
