On 12 March 2026, we successfully launched a Preschool Education Program (PEPE) Unit at Sengabay Baptist Church in Salima, named Joyful PEPE Unit. The event was attended by local leaders, church members, the unit’s board, PTA committee, parents, missionary educators, and the students. It was truly a joyful moment for the church and the community.

The Joyful PEPE Unit began in September 2025 with only 3 children after signing an agreement with PEPE coordination. By the end of the term, enrollment had grown to 15 learners, and in January 2026 the number increased to 34 children. The teachers also attended basic PEPE training in October and continue to work closely with PEPE authorities for guidance.
The church currently manages the unit through a Board and a Parents–Teacher Association (PTA), with a Director overseeing administrative work. While classroom renovations are underway due to previously damaged structures, the children are temporarily using the church building for their lessons.

PEPE units do not charge formal school fees. Instead, parents agree on a small contribution through the PTA and board to support the running of the unit. This contribution also acts as a commitment from parents and the community, encouraging them to send their children to school and creating a strong sense of ownership of the program.

Despite financial challenges, especially with renovating classrooms. the church has shown great commitment, unity, and passion in making this initiative possible.
PEPE (Preschool Education Program) is a church-based early childhood education initiative that provides holistic learning and Christian values to children, especially in communities where access to preschool education is limited.
We are grateful to everyone who contributed to making this initiative a success.
