𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 ✍️ “𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘵𝘩 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘴 𝘥𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘴, 𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘨𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘴.” We filter everything today—photos, news, comments, even people. Yet while our screens are curated, our hearts often are not. Too much noise gets in, and too much truth gets pushed out. Life feels disordered, not because we lack information, but because we lack discernment. What we allow into the heart will eventually direct the life. Paul prays in 🕮 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝟏:𝟗, “𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘐 𝘱𝘳𝘢𝘺, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘺𝘦𝘵 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘦𝘥𝘨𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘫𝘶𝘥𝘨𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵.” Written to faithful believers, this prayer shows that love without truth becomes blind, and truth without love becomes harsh. God desires both—filtered through discernment. Like us today, these believers lived amid pressure, confusion, and competing voices. Discernment meant learning to choose what truly mattered, not what merely felt urgent. It was spiritual judgment sharpened by truth, not driven by emotion or popular opinion. The Bible teaches that discernment distinguishes between good and best, truth and almost‑truth. 𝐇𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐬 𝟓:𝟏𝟒 says mature believers have their senses “𝘦𝘹𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘯 𝘣𝘰𝘵𝘩 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘭.” God sharpens our judgment so we may “𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘵” (𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝟏:𝟏𝟎). Discernment is not suspicion—it is spiritual clarity. God’s Word matures discernment, which sanctifies by truth (𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 𝟏𝟕:𝟏𝟕), gives wisdom (𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐬 𝟐:𝟔), and provides the Spirit’s guidance (𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 𝟏𝟔:𝟏𝟑). We are commanded to “𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴; 𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘥 𝘧𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘪𝘴 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥” (𝟏 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝟓:𝟐𝟏). Doctrine matters—it anchors judgment. Without it, we end up swallowing anything that sounds sweet. True discernment is found in Christ, “𝘪𝘯 𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘮 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘩𝘪𝘥 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘥𝘰𝘮 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘦𝘥𝘨𝘦” (𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝟐:𝟑). When Christ rules the heart, truth filters our desires and love directs our decisions. He does not merely inform us—He reforms us. A filtered heart is only possible through Christ. So, what are you allowing to shape your thoughts, loves, and choices? Not everything popular is profitable, and not everything loud is true. We need Christ today. Let God’s Word become the filter of our hearts. Choose what is eternal over what is trending—what matters most over what merely shines. 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫: Heavenly Father, refine our hearts by Your truth. Filter our loves, thoughts, and desires through Your Word. Give us discernment to choose what pleases You and courage to reject what does not. Shape us to reflect Christ in all things.
