Series: Faith
Scripture:
“Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.”
— Hebrews 10:38 (KJV)
Reflection
This verse is both an encouragement and a warning. God makes it clear that faith is how the righteous live, not how they start and then abandon the journey. Faith is meant to be maintained, not paused when things get difficult.
To “draw back” means to retreat in fear, doubt, or discouragement. It is choosing comfort over obedience, sight over trust, and safety over faith. God is not pleased when His children shrink back because He knows what faith produces — growth, endurance, and victory.
Living by faith requires perseverance. There will be moments when prayers seem delayed and answers are not visible. In those moments, faith says, “I will stand. I will trust. I will not turn back.” God takes pleasure in those who continue trusting Him even when the path is hard.
This verse calls you to stay steady. Faith is not proven when everything is easy, but when you refuse to give up. The same God who began the work in you will sustain you as long as you keep trusting Him.
Declarations
I declare that I will not draw back from my faith, in the name of Jesus.
I declare that I will stand firm even when the journey is challenging, in the name of Jesus.
Fear, discouragement, and doubt will not cause me to retreat, in the name of Jesus.
I declare that my life brings pleasure to God as I continue to walk by faith, in the name of Jesus.
๐ Practical Application
Today, choose to stand by faith:
Refuse to quit when progress feels slow
Remind yourself of God’s past faithfulness
Encourage yourself with God’s Word
Faith that endures brings God’s pleasure.
Prayer
Father, strengthen my faith so I do not draw back in difficult moments. Help me to remain steady, trusting You even when I do not see immediate results. Let my life bring You pleasure as I continue to walk by faith. In the name of Jesus.
Thought for Today
Where are you tempted to give up or step back?
Faith moves forward — even when the way is not clear. Stay steady.
