DAILY DEVOTION — January 11
Working for the Lord
Colossians 3:23 (NKJV)
(And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.)
Every believer has the opportunity to turn ordinary work into sacred worship. Paul’s instruction to the Colossians reminds us that the true measure of excellence is not who notices our effort, but Who we are doing it for. Every act—whether serving, giving, or leading—can glorify God when done with the right heart.
When our motivation shifts from pleasing people to honoring Christ, our work takes on eternal value.
Even the smallest task becomes meaningful when offered in gratitude to Him. This transforms our daily routines—our homes, jobs, and ministries—into altars of worship.
A renewed sense of purpose begins when we see every assignment as an opportunity to serve the Lord Himself. Gratitude makes that service joyful and gives strength to do everything “heartily,” knowing it’s for the King of kings.
Reflection Questions:
1. How can I approach my daily work as an act of worship?
2. What changes when I shift my focus from people’s approval to God’s glory?
3. How does gratitude help me serve with joy and excellence?
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for giving me work to do that can bring You glory. Help me to serve faithfully and joyfully, remembering that every task is an opportunity to honor You. May my attitude reflect gratitude and excellence in all I do. Amen.
Practical Application:
โ Begin your day by dedicating your work to the Lord.
โ When tempted to complain, pause and thank God for the opportunity to serve.
โ Encourage someone else to view their work as worship this week.
Takeaway Thought:
When your work is done for God’s glory, every task becomes an act of worship.
