Was thinking about the centurion that Jesus said had great faith (Matthew 8:5-13). A centurion was a Roman officer in command of a hundred men. The Romans treated the Jews very harshly, in a reference in Matthew 5:38-40, Roman soldiers could grab any Jewish citizen they chose and force that person to carry luggage or other items for a standard mile. Jesus said "go with them two miles". Yet, this Roman commander came to Jesus for help. (We too should go to the Father when we need help). The help he needed was not for himself but for a servant of his. Jesus offered to come to his place, but the centurion understood authority, the giving commands to those who are subject to you and they obey. He understood that sickness and disease were subject to the authority of Jesus, so all Jesus had to do was to give a command. Jesus did not go to the centurion's place, he didn't lay hands on the servant, he told the centurion, “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that moment. (v13) Jesus called this great faith (v10). What can you believe in God's Word and have great faith?
