Forgiveness is not easy. Let’s be honest, people hurt us. They betray, they disappoint, they say things that cut deep. And sometimes, the wound feels too personal to let go. However, when you refuse to forgive, you don’t imprison them, you imprison yourself.
Jesus said in Matthew 6:14, “If you forgive others their trespasses, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you.”
That, is the key. Because forgiveness opens the door for healing.
Unforgiveness is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. It doesn’t destroy them, it destroys your peace, your joy, your prayers.
You cannot walk in freedom while holding on to bitterness.
And let’s remember, none of us are perfect.
We’ve all hurt others. We’ve all fallen short. Yet, when we turned to God, He didn’t hesitate. He didn’t keep a list. He didn’t make us earn it.
He said, “Your sins are forgiven.”
That’s grace. And the same grace that washed you clean is the same grace He asks you to extend to others.
You might say, “But, they don’t deserve it.”
Maybe they don’t. But neither did we.
Forgiveness isn’t saying what they did was okay, it’s saying I choose peace over pain, healing over hatred, freedom over bondage.
The moment you forgive, something shifts. The weight lifts. The anger loses its power. And suddenly, you realize, forgiveness wasn’t for them… it was for you.
So today, I’m challenging you
Let it go.
Release that person.
Forgive that parent, that friend, that partner, that boss.
Forgive yourself.
And as you do, you’ll feel something beautiful; the peace of God flowing through your heart like living water. Because where forgiveness lives, freedom reigns.
You are never more like Jesus than when you forgive.
