SON OF ENCOURAGEMENT ( BARNABAS)
Be a Barnabas
There are those people who are:
RISK TAKERS
CARE TAKERS
UNDERTAKERS
Barnabas was the man who got used to develop leadership.
He never wrote a book in the Bible, but he encouraged Paul and Mark to write books .
He also encouraged others by rebuilding relationships .
“Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, because he is helpful to me in my ministry.”
2 Timothy 4:11 NIV
5 Ways to encourage others
1)PRACTICES STERWARDSHIP
Barnabas was levite.
He saw a need in Jerusalem and moved in to meet that need.
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
Galatians 6:2 NIV
2)BY EXTENDING FRIENDSHIP
A true friend, is someone who comes in when everyone goes out .
“Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.”
Romans 15:7 NIV
We are not in a business of snubbing sinners. many of our churches are secret societies for snubbing sinners .
I can vision Peter welcoming Paul with a big hug after the encouragement from Barnabas.
“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.”
Romans 15:5-7 NIV
Call New what it was to be received, he knew what it was to be encouraged
3) BY BUILDING PARTNERSHIPS
“Some of them, however, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch and began to speak to Greeks also, telling them the good news about the Lord Jesus. The Lord’s hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord. News of this reached the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. When he arrived and saw what the grace of God had done, he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts.”
Acts 11:20-23 NIV
Barnabas was bridge builder.
There are three kinds of people in the world
Those who are risk takers
Caretakers
And undertakerS
I am so thankful for those who encourage.
One pastor was talking to another pastor .
How many committees do you have in your church? The other pastor replied well, we have committee for this ,committee for that.
He asked, do you have cold water committee?
The first Pastor replied what is that?
The cold water committee is a committee whereby when anyone has a good idea, they come and pour cold water on it.
The pastor replied yes I’ve got one of those in my church. In Fact can tell you who the chairman is.
Thank God for Barnabases who don’t go to see what’s wrong and what can’t be done.
4) ENCOURAGE OTHERS BY DEVELOPING LEADERSHIP
The people in Antioch had so much work to be done, but there was no one with the insight and the wisdom to do it. Barnabas called soul to come to Antioch to help with a spiritual wisdom and insight into the word of God.
Spiritual gifts that needed to be developed. He was content to let paul take leadership.sat back and let paul do it.
ENCOURAGE OTHERS BY REBUILDING RELATIONSHIPS
“Some time later Paul said to Barnabas, “Let us go back and visit the believers in all the towns where we preached the word of the Lord and see how they are doing.” Barnabas wanted to take John, also called Mark, with them, but Paul did not think it wise to take him, because he had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in the work. They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company. Barnabas took Mark and sailed for Cyprus,”
Acts 15:36-39 NIV
Barnabas knew the boy Mark had failed but he also knew FAILURE IS NOT FINAL.
“Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, because he is helpful to me in my ministry.”
2 Timothy 4:11 NIV
How did this happen because there was a man called Barnabas who refused to give up on Mark. Mark eventually wrote a book in the Bible.
“Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.”
Galatians 6:1 NIV
Barnabas was a good man full of the Holy ghost. Full of faith. How was he full of the holy ghost because he was full of faith.
