  • REST NOW, SO THAT YOU'LL NOT BE LAID TO REST!

"And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had done; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had done." -Genesis 2:2 (KJV)

God worked for six days, and He rested on the seventh day. God knew the importance of rest; that is why he commanded us to dedicate a day for ourselves for rest and his worship (Genesis 2:2).

Unfortunately, some see rest as laziness, while others see it as idleness, but the truth is, rest is not laziness. Laziness is when you rest before getting tired. Consequently, when you get tired, it is normal that you rest.

Rest is not idleness. Rest is not slothfulness, and neither is it a waste of time. It is a sacred time to recharge our batteries. It is a special time to rejuvenate and get ready for another day's work or task. Rest is a necessity, not a liability.

Jesus Christ rested too. If God, who has all the powers in the universe, rests, who are you not to? Jesus knew the importance of rest, so he quietly went into the inner part of the boat to rest when he and his disciples were on their way to the other side of the lake. He laid his head on a cushion and rested in the inner part of the boat. But his disciples didn't allow him rest for long before they brought another problem to him (Luke 8:22–25).

You are not more powerful than Jesus. Jesus knew powers and anointing are never a substitute for rest. Doing vigils every day or overwhelming yourself with kingdom work will not exonerate you from breaking down if you don't rest well.

Every human is a spirit who lives in a house called the 'body'. If you don't take care of your own 'house' well, it will pack up before your time is up on the earth.

God will not give you another 'house' (body) if the one he has given you packs up due to your negligence and refusal to take good care of it. Your spirit will only return to God prematurely if you refuse to take good care of the body that God has given you.

Now, I know you have been working hard to provide for your family. I know you’ve been working 24/7 to provide for your wife and kids. I know you are doing all you can to make life easier for your children. I know you are trying to build a better life and create a better future for yourself, but all these should not be done at the expense of your health.

Anyone who works so hard without rest is like a man who sold his head to buy a cap. With which head will he wear the cap? The future is only for those who are healthy. You need a long life and good health to experience the future that you are saving for.

Hence, your health and general wellbeing should come first before anything else. If you die today, those you are sacrificing yourself for will survive one way or the other. Life will go on.

Dear friend, you are not a machine. Even a machine is allowed to rest so that it will not malfunction. You are not designed to work 24/7. Your body is not built for constant pressure. Your mind is not built for endless stress.

If you keep pushing your mind and body endlessly, they will break down, your body will collapse, and your progress will crash.

So, this weekend, stop the hustle for a moment and rest your body. Rest your mind. Rest your spirit. Take a long sleep. Eat well. Spend time with God. Spend time with family. Do nothing.
Because if you don't do it, you might be forced to take that rest six feet below! May that not be our portion in Jesus' name. (Amen). Shalom!

  • WORD OF HOPE

    (Episode 2)

    Never Give Up!

Challenges and problems of life are indispensable. They will always come uninvited. But they will also go away and leave us alone if we refuse to let them make our life a place of permanent abode.

Many people have allowed failure, poverty, setbacks, sickness, disease and other life challenges to settle permanently into their lives. But what they don't realize is that 'whatever you don't want, you must not watch."

We cannot stop life's problems and challenges from coming our way, but we can choose and decide not to allow them stay. There is no problem or challenge that can overcome you without your consent.

If you don't give up, the monster of failure, poverty, sickness, disease and setbacks trying to swallow you and your destiny up will eventually get tired, give up and leave you alone. We must brace up to wage war against whatever challenges and problems life throws our way. We must not allow such a challenge to rest until it leaves our life.

We all face challenges in life, but how we respond to those challenges differentiates us from one another. While some give up too easily, others stand strong, refusing to be defeated and swallowed up even when facts on the ground point otherwise.

Proverbs 24:10 says, "if you faint in the days of adversity, your strength is small." Likewise, in Isaiah 43:2, God promises never to let us down. He said when we pass through the waters, he will be with us; and through the rivers, we will not be drown. When we walk through the fire, we shall not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon us.

Conceding defeat or giving up only means one thing – and that is agreeing to subject oneself to a life of misery, torture, pain, sadness and failure. Giving up can be likened to self-incarceration or self-imprisonment.

This piece has, however, been written to motivate those faced with tough life challenges that is, hell-bent on swallowing them up whether in their finances, health, career, academics, relationship or marriage, not to give up without a fight. When you refuse to give up, the monster of failure trying to swallow you up will eventually get tired and leave you alone. The pictorial illustration below this write up tells the story.

With consistent prayers, fasting and service, the enemy trying to swallow you up will eventually get tired and leave you alone once you don't give up, because you are not the only one getting tired, the problem trying to swallow you up is also getting tired of holding on. Hold on a little more; and you will soon be free! Shalom!

  • WORD OF HOPE

    (Episode 3)

There is a thin line between waiting on God and waisting your time. Many people are wasting their time claiming to be waiting on God. You only wait on God for things only God can do. You can't claim to be waiting on God for things that are not beyond your control and reach.

For example, you can wait on God for a child because only God gives children. You cannot manufacture children on your own. The blessing of children is beyond the reach and control of humans. Likewise, you can wait on God for divine healing regarding an ailment that has no medical cure.

But when what you seek is within your reach and not exclusively beyond your control, you are not waiting on God, you are only wasting your time. For example, you cannot wait on God to pass an exam, you study for it. You cannot wait on God for a job, you create one and start small. If others too didn't create jobs, who will employ you?

We cannot just continue folding our arms claiming to be waiting on God for things we can do for ourselves. Waiting on God for financial prosperity is just a waste of time because even those who don't know God make money. Once you obey the principle of financial success you can be rich.

It is imperative we define these things and put them in proper perspectives, so that we don't keep wasting our time claiming to be waiting on God. God is a God of principles, he will never do for you what he has given you power to do for yourself. Shalom. (James 2:14-26).
