Daily Devotion — April 14 | Mark 3:14 (NKJV)

Relationship Before Ministry

Mark chapter 3 records an important moment in the ministry of Jesus. After gathering many followers, Jesus appoints twelve men to be His apostles. These twelve would later become the foundation of the early church, but their calling begins with something simple and profound.

Jesus appoints them first so that they might be with Him. Before they preach, before they perform miracles, and before they lead others, their first responsibility is to spend time with Jesus. Relationship comes before assignment.

This order reveals a foundational principle of discipleship. Ministry flows out of fellowship with Christ. The apostles were not chosen merely for their abilities or qualifications. They were chosen to walk closely with Jesus, learn from Him, and allow His life to shape theirs.

After being with Him, Jesus sends them out to preach. Their message and authority come from the time they spend in His presence. Their effectiveness in ministry is directly connected to their closeness with Christ.

For believers today this verse reminds us that the Christian life begins with being with Jesus. Service, leadership, and ministry should always flow from a deep relationship with Him. When we prioritize time with Christ through prayer, Scripture, and obedience, our lives become vessels through which God can work.

Prayer

Lord Jesus thank You for calling me into relationship with You. Help me to prioritize time in Your presence so that my life is shaped by Your truth and love. Teach me to serve others from a heart that remains close to You. In Jesus name Amen.

● Set aside intentional time each day to be with Jesus through prayer and Scripture

● Allow your relationship with Christ to guide your actions and decisions

● Serve others from a place of spiritual connection rather than obligation

Uncertainty about my future, but I’m choosing to trust God daily… even when I don’t have a stable job, when finances feel overwhelming, and when doors don’t seem to open. In moments of emotional exhaustion and silent battles, I remind myself that God is with me—strengthening me, holding me, and making a way even when I cannot see it.

This season is teaching me to rely on Him not just in words, but in surrender… believing that He will uphold me and never let me fall.

How has your hardest season shaped your faith?

It broke my dependence on people and taught me to lean completely on God. When everything in my professional life felt unstable—when doors closed, opportunities slipped away, and uncertainty took over—I realized that my security was never meant to come from a job or people, but from Him alone.

That season humbled me, strengthened my faith, and reminded me that even in loss, God is working behind the scenes. It didn’t just test my faith—it refined it, teaching me to trust His plan even when I couldn’t understand it.

Now I know… delays are not denials, and every setback was shaping me for something greater according to His purpose.

Romans 8:28 NKJV
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

Today, let’s speak with authority over every fear and anxiety. They have no hold over our lives in Jesus’ name.

1. I declare that God has not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)
2. I declare that the Lord is with me; I will not be afraid or discouraged. (Joshua 1:9)
3. I declare that God’s perfect love casts out all fear from my life. (1 John 4:18)
4. I declare that the peace of God guards my heart and my mind in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6–7)
5. I declare that I cast all my anxieties on the Lord, because He cares deeply for me. (1 Peter 5:7)

Why emotions overpower faith
Situations feel immediate, God feels distant : Pain, fear, rejection—these are tangible. Faith requires trust in the unseen.

Delay in answers weakens confidence : When prayers aren’t answered quickly, emotions start questioning God.

Past wounds influence present faith : Hurt, betrayal, loss—these create emotional filters that distort truth.

Truth you need to hold on to
Faith is not the absence of emotions, but the decision to trust God above them.

Even strong believers in the Bible struggled:

David cried, doubted, and yet chose God.
Elijah felt fear and depression after great victory.

God never rejected them for feeling—He restored them when they returned to Him.

How to keep faith steady when emotions rise
1. Acknowledge your emotions, don’t suppress them
Tell God honestly: “I feel afraid, hurt, confused.”

2. Speak truth over your feelings
Don’t let feelings have the final word—God’s Word should.

3. Stay rooted in the Word daily
Faith grows when you feed it.

Romans 10:17
“Faith comes by hearing… the Word of God.”

4. Choose faith intentionally
Faith is not always natural—it’s often a conscious decision.

A simple way to remember
Emotions say: “I feel like God is not there.”
Faith says: “God is here, even when I don’t feel Him.”

चुनौती यह नहीं है कि भावनाएँ गलत हैं—वे परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई हैं—

Faith vs Emotions — What’s really happening?

Faith is rooted in truth.
Emotions are rooted in experience.

Emotions change with situations. Faith is meant to stand despite situations.

The challenge is not that emotions are wrong—they are God-given—but when they become louder than truth, they start leading us instead of following God.

Hebrews 11:1 says:
“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Faith doesn’t depend on what you feel—it depends on what God has said.

Jeremiah 17:9 reminds: “The heart is deceitful above all things…”
Our emotions (heart) can mislead us if they are not aligned with God’s truth.

2 Corinthians 5:7: “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
You can also read it as: not by feelings.

So many people are surrounded by others and still feel completely alone. You smile, you show up, you function — and inside, there's a quiet ache that no one seems to notice. You are not invisible to God. He sees the version of you that no one else gets to see — the tired, the real, the unseen — and He calls that version beloved.
