Hello faithful Link Robins clients,

Your continued support is truly invaluable, and I'm thrilled to share some significant updates regarding your Flarum 2.0 sites!

Flarum 2.0 Subscriber Sites Updated to Beta 8!

I know many of you have been keenly awaiting this release, especially given the recent developments within the Flarum Foundation and its commercial entity splitting. I'm pleased to report that the "growing pains" have been minimal and the transition as seamless as possible for Link Robins. We experienced very few effects, and any issues were swiftly resolved.

As of just moments ago, all Flarum 2.0 sites within Link Robins have been completely migrated and updated to Beta 8! You should find some exciting new "goodies" waiting for you on your dashboards today.

A Minor Hiccup: Realtime Permissions (Now Resolved!)

As much as I strive for perfection, sometimes minor issues can arise. There was a temporary hiccup related to "Realtime Permissions" during the update process.

The issue stemmed from a permission denied error within the Flarum Realtime extension:

In UnableToListContents.php line 17:
Unable to list contents for '', deep listing
Reason: RecursiveDirectoryIterator::__construct(/var/www/html/vendor/flarum
/realtime/js/dist/forum/): Failed to open directory: Permission denied
In LocalFilesystemAdapter.php line 185:
RecursiveDirectoryIterator::__construct(/var/www/html/vendor/flarum/realtim
e/js/dist/forum/): Failed to open directory: Permission denied

This has been fully remedied by implementing an additional command-line solution in the server environment. While this initially added about a minute to boot times, subsequent runs have shown significantly reduced turnaround, with caching playing a big role in optimizing performance. Your sites are now running smoother than ever!

Discover New Flarum 2.0 Features!

Get ready to explore some fantastic new additions designed to enhance your experience:

  • "Announcements" Panel: Right on your main dashboard, you'll now find a dedicated "Announcements" panel. This ensures you'll never miss important updates on Flarum Development, even if you don't frequently visit the official Flarum site. Stay informed effortlessly!
  • Enhanced Extensions Area: As you scroll past the Queue Overview and Statistics on your main dashboard, you'll discover a newly designed Extensions area. This section provides a quick overview of your Extension Health, Suggestions, and Disabled Extensions. This new feature empowers you to easily request the latest updates for your site's extensions! While I diligently rotate through client sites to get extension updates and Flarum patches rolled out ASAP, this gives you the ability to prompt an urgent update. My turnaround time for such requests remains within 24 to 48 hours.
  • Advanced Flarum Settings (Refresher): A feature that's been there but is worth highlighting again is the Advanced Flarum Settings panel, easily enabled in your admin dashboard (where you can also clear the cache). This powerful dashboard allows you to further extend your site with options like "Maintenance Mode" and custom icon packs. You won't need to dive into many of these options, as I already manage your Queue driver for optimal performance. I'm also exploring the possibility of extending Search Drivers for Flarum 2.0 on higher-tier plans, which could significantly speed up searching as your sites grow. (Please note, this is an idea I'm currently entertaining and depends on demand and cost-effective solutions.)

Thank you again for being a valued Link Robins client. I'm committed to providing you with the best Flarum experience possible!

I'm writing to you today with some exciting news regarding your Link Robins Flarum hosting plan. Through diligent optimization of my infrastructure and a strong commitment to keeping Link Robins competitive and accessible, I'm pleased to announce a price adjustment for your Base (NEST) plan, effective on your next billing cycle.

Your monthly rate for the Base (NEST) plan will now be $17. (This is a reduction from your current $30/month.)

This positive change is a direct result of my ongoing efforts as the sole operator of Link Robins to continuously refine our operational efficiency. I've been proactively finding ways to cut internal expenses, optimizing server resource allocation, and strategically adapting to the evolving landscape of Flarum hosting. My primary goal remains to provide the best possible Flarum hosting experience at the lowest feasible cost, ensuring Link Robins remains an affordable, high-value choice for everyone.

My commitment to you remains unwavering:

  • Unwavering Reliability: My infrastructure is intentionally over-engineered. This means dedicating separate, robust servers for critical components like your database, website files, and even the backend tools that keep everything running smoothly. This level of isolation prevents one busy neighbor from ever slowing down your entire forum.
  • Investing in Excellence: I continue to integrate and pay for best-in-class third-party solutions like Mailgun and Cloudflare R2 to ensure your forum's essential services, such as seamless email delivery and real-time functions, work flawlessly. These are fundamental to the "Zero Compromises" promise.
  • Dedicated Support, Without Profit: As the sole founder and operator, Karl Bullock (me!) handles every aspect of Link Robins. Every support request, every extension verification, every optimization – my labor is poured into your site's success at no additional charge. My pricing model is designed almost entirely to cover the "lights on" for this top-tier infrastructure and the third-party services that power it, not to generate substantial personal profit.

This price adjustment allows Link Robins to remain at the forefront of managed Flarum hosting, offering unparalleled value, cutting-edge technology, secure environments, and the responsive 1:1 support that truly sets Link Robins apart. It ensures I can maintain the high standards you deserve and keep your Flarum community thriving without interruption, now at an even more accessible price.

I deeply value your trust and partnership. If you have any questions or would like to discuss this further, please don't hesitate to reach out directly.

Hello everyone,

As Flarum 2.0 development progresses and we anticipate the upcoming Release Candidate, I want to proactively address a significant aspect of this update: extensions. We all know extensions are a vital part of the Flarum ecosystem, and the transition to Flarum 2.0 will involve some breaking changes that impact their compatibility.

To ensure a smooth and stable transition for your sites, I will have to remove all none core extensions during the update process. This means that, initially, only core Flarum extensions will remain active. Following the update, you will be responsible for informing me which of your preferred extensions need to be re-applied to your sites.

Please note that I will only proceed with the Flarum 2.0 update for your site upon your explicit request. This individualized approach is crucial because many of you utilize various extensions, and their compatibility with Flarum 2.0 may vary or take time to be updated by their developers. My priority is your satisfaction and the stability of your sites, so I will manage updates on a per-site basis. If you require more time to assess your extension needs, please communicate that with me, and we can make appropriate arrangements.

"Spring Cleaning" Initiative

To minimize the effort involved in this transition, I am announcing a "Spring Cleaning" period for your existing extensions. If you have any extensions that are currently disabled and you have no immediate plans to reactivate them, please notify me as soon as possible for removal.

This Spring Cleaning initiative begins on March 20th and concludes on May 3rd. Your cooperation in identifying and removing inactive extensions during this time will significantly streamline the update process for everyone.

Let's work together to make this transition as efficient and beneficial as possible!

Thank you!

Dear Client,

I'm writing to you today with an important update regarding your Link Robins Flarum hosting plan. To ensure I can continue delivering the elite, uncompromising, and personally managed service you rely on, I will be implementing a modest adjustment to my pricing, effective on your billing cycle.

For your Base (NEST) plan, the monthly rate will adjust from $20 / month to $30 / month.

This decision was not made lightly. My primary goal with Link Robins has always been to provide the best possible Flarum hosting experience at the lowest feasible cost. As a solo operation, Link Robins is built on a foundation of personal accountability and a commitment to "over-engineering for reliability" – a principle that ensures your forum always performs at its peak.

Here’s why this adjustment is necessary:

  • Unwavering Reliability: My infrastructure is intentionally over-engineered. This means dedicating separate, robust servers for critical components like your database, website files, and even the backend tools that keep everything running smoothly. This level of isolation prevents one busy neighbor from ever slowing down your entire forum, but it does come with a significant cost in server resources.
  • Investing in Excellence: To ensure your forum's essential services, such as seamless email delivery and real-time functions, work flawlessly, I integrate and pay for best-in-class third-party solutions like Mailgun and Cloudflare R2. These are not optional extras; they are fundamental to the "Zero Compromises" promise.

This adjustment allows me to continue investing in the cutting-edge technology, the secure, dedicated environments, and the responsive 1:1 support that truly sets Link Robins apart. It ensures I can maintain the high standards you deserve and keep your Flarum community thriving without interruption.

I deeply value your trust and partnership. If you have any questions or would like to discuss this further, please don't hesitate to reach out directly.

To my valued Link Robins clients,

As a solo founder, my goal has always been to provide a "Technical Edge" that larger, faceless hosting companies can’t match. Today, I am officially announcing that I have broken ground on the Link Robins Flarum 2.x Testing Environment.

Flarum 2.0 represents a massive leap forward in speed and architecture. My mission is simple: Link Robins will be one of the first managed hosts to offer Flarum 2.x as a stable, production-ready environment the moment it is officially released.

🚀 Early Access: Migration to Release Candidates (RC)

I am now offering clients the option to migrate their communities to the Flarum 2.x Release Candidate (RC) versions - when released - ahead of the stable launch.

However, being an early adopter comes with significant responsibilities. Please read the following carefully:

  • Experimental Nature: This is strictly experimental. While the core of 2.x is robust, you should expect bugs and minor instabilities.
  • Extension Compatibility: Many popular extensions have not yet been updated for 2.x. Migrating early may mean losing some of your current functionality.
  • Liability Disclaimer: As this is pre-release software, I (Link Robins) cannot be held liable for software inefficiencies, bugs, or extension failures inherent to the 2.x beta/RC code.
  • Your Choice: This is a 100% optional "opt-in" for those who want to be on the absolute bleeding edge.

When Flarum 2.x is officially released as Stable, I will not be pushing a global "Update All" button.

Mass updates often break communities. Instead, I will be sticking to my promise of personal accountability. I will reach out to each of you individually to conduct a personalized Update Plan. We will sit down (via our 1:1 chat) and:

  1. Audit your current extensions.
  2. Verify 2.x compatibility for your specific needs.
  3. Schedule a migration window that ensures zero downtime and zero community disruption.

Why I do it this way

Most hosts care about the server; I care about the community sitting on that server. My precision-engineered stack (powered by Valkey, Laravel Horizon, and Realtime WebSockets) is already being tuned to ensure that when you do move to 2.x, it is the smoothest experience on the market.

If you are interested in testing the 2.x Release Candidate for your site, please reach out to me directly via the Admin Chat Widget.

Stay tuned for more updates from the lab.

Hello everyone,

With the recent buzz surrounding the Flarum 2.x release, I know many of you are eager to get your hands on the next generation of the world’s most elegant forum software.

As many of you know, Link Robins is a solo operation. When you host with me, you aren't just getting a slice of a server; you’re getting a stack that I have personally tuned, scripted, and secured. Because I handle every line of the deployment code myself, my priority is—and always will be—stability over speed.

I’ve been working proactively behind the scenes to ensure that when we flip the switch to 2.x, your communities don't just "work," but actually perform better than ever.

Here is where we currently stand:

  • Infrastructure Ready: I have finalized the core deployment scripts for Flarum 2.x. This includes a complete rewrite of how we handle dynamic memory allocation and background queues.
  • Enhanced Image Handling: I’ve integrated the brand-new FoF Upload 2.0 (Beta). This means when you move to 2.x, your forum will automatically begin generating WebP thumbnails and storing image dimensions to prevent "layout shift," making your site feel faster and more professional on mobile devices.
  • Performance First: Our 2.x stack is now fully optimized for Redis and Horizon. We are moving toward a "Queue-First" architecture, ensuring that even under heavy load, your users experience zero lag during post-creation or notification delivery.
  • Robust Backups: I have updated our Cloudflare R2 backup logic to ensure that 2.x database structures are fully protected and restorable from day one.

What’s Next?

Flarum 2.x is a major architectural leap. Rather than rushing into early testing, I am currently focusing all my efforts on preparing the underlying infrastructure to handle this new version seamlessly. I am continuously monitoring Flarum’s development progress, and once a fully stable release is reached, I will begin the rigorous hands-on testing required to ensure your community remains stable during the transition.

Until that stable milestone is reached, I am keeping a watchful eye on every update from the core team to ensure Link Robins is ready the moment the software is production-grade. There is no action required on your part yet—sit tight, enjoy your current stable environment, and know that a faster, leaner Link Robins experience is being built for you behind the scenes.

Thank you for your continued trust and for being part of the Link Robins journey.

Hello everyone,

As the founder of Link Robins, my top priority is ensuring that your forum remains fast, stable, and—most importantly—online 24/7. To guarantee this level of reliability, I am making a change to how extensions are managed on our platform.

The Update: Transitioning to Manual Extension Management
Effective immediately, I have removed the "Extension Manager" from the Flarum admin dashboards.

Why am I making this change?
Link Robins is a solo-operated project. Because I manage this infrastructure alongside my other daily professional commitments, I need to ensure that no site ever goes down while I am away from my terminal.

In the Flarum ecosystem, installing extensions through a web browser can sometimes lead to "timeout" errors. If a browser tab closes or a connection flickers during an install, it can leave a site in an "incomplete" state, causing it to go offline. By moving extension management to a secure, manual process, I can ensure every installation is successful and verified before it ever touches your live site.

How to Request Extensions
I want you to have all the features you need. To request an extension, we will now use the Verified Request model:

  1. Use the Chat: Click the Chat icon in the bottom corner of your Flarum Dashboard.
  2. Send your Request: Message me with the name of the extension you would like to install.
  3. Manual Verification: I will personally check the extension for compatibility, install it via the secure command line, and optimize your site’s cache to ensure everything works perfectly.

What this means for you:

  • Zero-Downtime Guarantee: This change eliminates the primary cause of unexpected site crashes.
  • Founder Oversight: I personally verify that your requested extensions are compatible with your specific version of Flarum.
  • Continuous Uptime: You can rest easy knowing your site won't be affected by background installation errors while I am away from my desk.

Requests will be processed daily during my dedicated support windows (typically within 24 hours).

Link Robins is built on the idea of providing a stable, high-performance home for your communities. By moving away from unpredictable web-installs, I am able to provide a much higher level of reliability for every single client.

Thank you for your support and for being a part of Link Robins!

Hello everyone,

Extremely busy day for Link Robins!

I have found an error in the infrastructure where the Extension Manager times out prematurely during an extension install, update, or uninstall and breaks the site require manual intervention. This is extremely inconvenient, so I have investigated the issue and am in the process of pushing out an update to fix this.

You may see a slight disconnect of your site during this process. This will be completed in the next 30 minutes.

If you experience any issues with your site, please let me know ASAP!

Thank you!

Hello everyone!

As part of my ongoing commitment to providing the best possible Flarum experience at Link Robins, I have some exciting news. I have officially taken over and revived the abandoned Mobile Search extension.

Originally released as flarumtr/flarum-ext-mobile-search, this extension was a favorite for many but eventually became unsupported, abandoned, and deleted. I know how important a seamless mobile experience is for your users, so I’ve updated the code and re-released it as linkrobins/flarum-ext-mobile-search.

✨ Why use this extension?

On mobile devices, Flarum’s default search can sometimes feel hidden. This extension fixes that by:

  • Moving the search bar directly to the homepage on mobile devices.
  • Making it instant: Users can find content the moment they land on your forum without digging through menus.
  • Full Compatibility: I have updated the extension to ensure it works perfectly with Flarum 1.8.13 and beyond.

🛠 How to Switch

If you are currently using the old flarumtr version, or if you want to install my new version, please follow these steps:

1. Remove the old (abandoned) version:

composer remove flarumtr/flarum-ext-mobile-search

2. Install the new Link Robins version:

composer require linkrobins/flarum-ext-mobile-search

3. Clear your cache:

php flarum cache:clear

🛡 My Commitment to You

By bringing this into the Link Robins namespace, I am committing to keeping it maintained, bug-free, and compatible as Flarum continues to evolve.

If you have any questions or need help with the installation, please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly.

Redis v1.1.3

I wanted to provide a quick update regarding the FoF Redis extension. Following the performance improvements introduced in v1.1.2 earlier today, the Friends of Flarum team has released an additional follow-up update.

I have already applied this latest patch across all client sites. This update includes a key fix:

[1.x] Fix: Settings cache is now properly invalidated when an extension is enabled or disabled (#15 by @imorland).

If you notice any unusual behavior, please let me know immediately so I can address it or report it to the development team. Thank you for your continued support!

Hello everyone,

I am pleased to announce that the manual patching process for the Redis extension and Horizon Dashboard has been successfully completed for all hosted sites.

Status Update

All updates are now final. I have personally verified the dependencies for each instance, and I can confirm that the troubleshooting and investigations are concluded.

  • Service Status: All sites are back online and fully operational.
  • Fix Verified: The cache subscription issue on unix socket connections has been resolved, and the Horizon Dashboard is functioning correctly across the platform.

Thank You

As a one-person operation, I truly appreciate your patience and understanding while I performed these manual interventions. Maintaining the stability and performance of your forums is my top priority, and I’m glad to have everyone back up and running smoothly.

If you notice anything unusual or have any questions regarding your specific instance, please don't hesitate to reach out.

At Link Robins, my mission is to provide more than just a forum—I provide a stable, high-performing home for your community. A major part of that commitment involves the careful maintenance and updating of the extensions you’ve chosen to power your site’s most modern features.

The Discovery
While performing routine maintenance and testing updates for the FriendsOfFlarum PWA (Progressive Web App) extension, I identified a technical version conflict. This is the technology that allows your community members to "install" your forum as an app on their mobile devices.

Currently, the latest development version of this extension has a requirement that is technically incompatible with the stable Flarum 1.8 core. In short, the extension is trying to use a newer set of "under-the-hood" instructions than what the current Flarum version supports.

Why This Matters to You
In the world of web development, it can be tempting to always chase the "newest" version. However, at Link Robins, I prioritize uptime and reliability. By identifying this mismatch early, I have been able to submit a comprehensive bug report to the extension's developers. This proactive research also allows me to accurately advise you if your extension updates get hung up during the installation process, ensuring you have a clear understanding of any technical delays and a roadmap for the eventual fix.

Link Robins in Action: Reporting the Bug
I don’t just find technical roadblocks; I help clear them. I have officially submitted a comprehensive bug report and diagnostic data to the FriendsOfFlarum organization—the global team of developers who maintain this extension.

By acting as a direct bridge between your forum and the developer community, I am helping ensure that the upcoming fix is compatible with the version of Flarum your community relies on every day.

What to Expect Next

  • Continued Stability: Your site remains on a fully tested, stable version of the PWA extension. All features are functioning as expected.
  • Proactive Maintenance: I am monitoring the developer response. As soon as a compatible, updated version is released, I will handle the deployment for you as part of your regular maintenance.

Thank you for trusting Link Robins to manage your community's technical health. I take the "tech headaches" off your plate so you can focus on what matters: your members.

Hello everyone,

I have successfully updated all Link Robins client sites to the latest Flarum version 1.8.13, which was released today.

This is a minor quality-of-life update focused on developer stability and compatibility. Because the changes are minimal, I do not anticipate any disruptions to your service. However, if you notice any unusual behavior or encounter issues, please report them to me immediately so I can resolve them for you.

What’s New in 1.8.13:

  • Stability: Added support for PHP 8.5 in reusable workflows.
  • Developer Improvements: The ApplicationBooted event now fires after all callbacks are complete, allowing for more reliable extension integration.

The Flarum team has confirmed this release is fully backwards compatible with previous 1.x versions.

Best regards,
Karl Bullock

Since our launch, Link Robins has consistently maintained a high standard of 99.5% uptime. However, we are proud to announce that from January 7 to February 7, we achieved 100% uptime across all services and client websites. This milestone is a testament to the stability of our infrastructure and its resilience against a wide range of variables.

During this period, we have continued to grow our client base and have deployed an additional server to further enhance website performance and security. These successes are only possible thanks to your continued trust. Thank you for being a valued part of Link Robins!

Hi everyone, I’m back and currently getting up to speed on all outstanding tasks. Despite limited connectivity during my time away, I’ve addressed recent requests and am now fully available.

Hello everyone,

At Link Robins, our mission is to provide the most reliable, high-performance hosting environment for Flarum communities. Over the past few weeks, I have been working specifically to address one of the most difficult challenges in modern web hosting: ensuring consistent email delivery to Microsoft (Outlook, Hotmail, and Live) recipients.

Microsoft has implemented extremely aggressive filtering standards that often penalize independent servers. To ensure your community’s notifications, password resets, and activation links never hit the spam folder, we have upgraded our infrastructure.

✉️ Mailgun Integration

We have officially integrated Mailgun as our professional outbound email proxy. The "delivery truck" carrying your messages is now powered by one of the highest-reputation relays in the world.

  • The Result: Your community's emails will now bypass generic IP blocks and land directly in the Inbox of Outlook, Gmail, and Yahoo recipients with elite-tier reliability.

🛠️ Standing By to Support You

As a veteran-owned business, I take the reliability of your community personally. I have already migrated our core systems to this new relay, but if you notice any issues with your email delivery or any other features, please reach out via the support widget in your dashboard immediately.

It is paramount that our infrastructure remains rock-solid so your communities can thrive. Thank you for choosing Link Robins.

Because our platform serves multiple assets with every page visit, eliminating data transfer costs has been a significant win for our operational efficiency. A huge thank you to the Cloudflare team for building such a developer-friendly solution!

Link Robins Community,

I’ve been working behind the scenes to prepare our infrastructure for Flarum 2.x. I have successfully forked our current 1.8.x environment and implemented the necessary core updates to support the next generation of Flarum.

What’s under the hood?

  • Updated PHP & Composer: We are running on PHP 8.2 and Composer 2.8.12, ensuring we meet all current 2.x compatibility standards.
  • Official Realtime Support: We’ve switched to the official Flarum Framework "Realtime" extension, replacing the now-unmaintained Blomstra version.

Beta Launch Coming Soon!
I’ll be rolling out a beta for these changes when FoF/Upload is compatible. While the initial code is based on official 2.x specifications, this beta period will allow us to test everything thoroughly before a full production release.

Stripe API Reset

Hello everyone,

We had to disconnect Stripe and rotate the API Key recently. Due to this, you may have received emails about your subscription ending and then reinstated. Due to the inconveniences caused by this, we have applied trials to accounts that are currently paying and have extended the trials periods to the accounts currently trialing our services.

Again, I am so sorry that this happened.

I have reached out to every one of you personally. If I have missed you, please let me know personally!

Thank you for your continued support!

A Minimum to A+

To our subscribers: thank you. The influx of new sign-ups following our recent pricing transition has exceeded all expectations, allowing us to extensively optimize our platform's performance and architectural integrity.

Today, I am proud to announce that we have standardized all hosted sites to a baseline "A" grade. Our ultimate goal remains a universal A+; we are currently assisting a few remaining clients in calibrating their HSTS settings to finalize that transition.

Scaling across various registrars like Porkbun and Namecheap initially presented a range of infrastructure inconsistencies. To resolve this, we have moved to a Cloudflare-centric DNS model. This alignment allows our R2 Object Storage and DNS to work in perfect harmony, providing our clients with full proxy benefits and superior asset delivery.

We are excited to continue pushing the boundaries of what Flarum hosting can be.

Happy New Year!

Revising Base Code

I am revising the base code right now to try and optimize the service more than it is today. Trying to keep everything universal with many variables is proving challenging, but everything is accomplish-able with a little bit of good attitude and positive mindset.

Service You Can Trust. Operations You Can Count On.

After months of engineering a robust, enterprise-grade infrastructure, I am proud to announce a major performance upgrade to Link Robins LLC. We are moving beyond "standard hosting" to a model of Infrastructure Sovereignty.

As a disabled Marine Corps Veteran, I’ve built this platform with the same dedication to integrity and mission-success that I brought to my time in service. Starting this January, your community isn't just hosted; it’s fortified.

🏝️ Your Community is an Island

Most hosts put you in a shared "sandbox" where a busy neighbor can slow you down. At Link Robins, we’ve changed the game. Every community now sits on an isolated, resource-guaranteed infrastructure with dedicated database clustering. Your forum is no longer fighting for CPU cycles—it lives on its own private, high-performance island.

🛠️ Key Technical Edge

  • Valkey 9.0 Powered: We have officially transitioned to Valkey 9.0 (the high-performance successor to Redis). Experience next-gen caching and session handling that is faster and more reliable than ever.
  • Laravel Horizon Dashboard: No more "black box" operations. Pro and Enterprise clients get access to a Horizon dashboard to monitor emails, notifications, and background jobs in real-time.
  • Built-in Email Outbox: Stop wrestling with 3rd party SMTP providers. Every plan includes a fully managed transactional email outbox that just works.
  • Unlimited Uploads: We leverage high-speed Cloudflare R2 storage. Your media is served globally at lightning speeds, and your growth is never capped by local disk space.
  • Full Extension Manager: It’s your community. Install, update, and manage your Flarum ecosystem exactly how you want it.
