I read Teen Wolf (only first and second season fic or stories that are au and ignore Erica and Boyd dying, Jackson leaving and Issac too. And especially I hate the later Teen Wolf fics where the Hales disappeared from the show because I loved the first two seasons of Teen Wolf due in large part to the Hale family I loved angsty, sometimes violent Derek throwing Stiles around and, of course, the sassy, always plotting Peter. Was he totally evil or was he insane when he killed Laura to gain her Alpha powers? Considering what he went through (the tortuous years healing and stuck in his own head) I probably would go on a major revenge spree too if I was treated like that and had lost virtually all my family in a particularly heinous act. Darn it I'd seek reveng and, and if legal means wasn't working, well *cough* you've got to do what you've got to do. Instead the writers wrote Peter as a straight up villain completely wasting the actor that could have carried the redemption story on at least four seasons (will he or won't go to the dark side?) Who who does not love a redemption story even if its bumpy along the way? (see Snape in Harry Potter which still makes me mad at Rowling for killing him off) WAs to the other adults in the beginning of the show Who could not love Stile's Dad or Melissa? I mean seriously? Who doesn't miss the Derek and his epic fail romances? I wonder how it would have gone if he was bi-sexual and picked a male to kanoodle with? Yes they had gay characters but the actor who played Derek was quite simply one of the hottest on the show. The writers needed to balance and put some adult driven plots in their episodes as well as the "monster of the week" or the "epic romance failure" of one of the teenagers or "oh well we'll kill off another character this week because we don't know what direction to go" episode.I feel better now that I vented and I'm off to find good Sterek and Steter recs

I love Harry Potter fan fiction whether Draco/Harry, Severus/Harry (never call him Sev!), Slytherin!Harry and, of course, Severitus/Sevitus stories. There are a lot of beautifully written and memorable stories in this fandom (and here comes the but) but some things just make my brain develop a headache. I am not pushing this towards any one author but I HATE when an author writes an 11 year old Harry as though he is a 25 year old adult. Really folks? A child can't be a child and develop as they go along? Of course I know that in canon Harry faces things that no normal child/wizard would ever have to but even in canon he has issues growing up. Please do write a child as a child (he certainly can have mentors another type of fiction I love) because one day my brain will explode if I have to read about Harry walking into his magical life and taking over as if he were an adult with life experience. There I feel better already.
I'm still a major Harry Potter fanfic fan and with it comes the tropes:
Favorites:
1. Slytherin!Harry (just don't make it an automatic Draco/Harry there are many more students in Harry's year)
2. Mpreg (only if its well done and, believe me, there aren't that many)
3. Severus!Lives (okay this is a major weakness of mine and I'd love to see more fics out there exploring how and what Severus does with his life after the war)
4. Girl!Harry (There are only two that I have ever read that rate an A plus in my book but I keep hoping for better quality to surface)
Non-Favorites:
1. NO EPILOGUE COMPLIANT FICS (Seriously Rowling what were you thinking?)
2. Time Travel Fics (I have a particularly strong squick with Harry retaining his adult mind coming back as a child physically *shudder*) However to be fair there is one great time travel fic featuring a Harry/Voldemort pairing (but they are both in fifth year) that is excellent. Don't think it was ever finished though).
3. OOC Snape (whenever I see that warning I run a thousand miles away. There a number of excellent fics that capture Snapes voice wonderfully but a lot that run off the rails and I think "who is this, not Snape for sure."

What a dummy. I am an independent and loathed both Hillary and Trump and voted for neither. But I find the alt-left crazies even scarier than Trump. I mean really. Do they have any idea of what real journalism is supposed to be about? The ethics? The work to get to the truth? No. They are so far up the DNCs ass that they can't see daylight nor do they care. If things aren't done their way they'll make up things or throw a massive tantrum (along with the foul language of course). Rachel dear quit. You're the laughingstock of America and have given even more fuel to the fire that the New York Times, Washington Post, Huffington Post NBC are all in the bag for the alt-left. And don't even get me started on the politicians that are trying to make a name for themselves for the next election. Ick. They are just disgusting. I hereby declare that the American voter needs a third party and extract only the moderate, semi-sane politicians (the few they can find) into it. Otherwise, many of us (myself included) will never vote again.

I love, love, love good urban fantasy novels. However there is a big but there. I want to see new worlds, fantastic magic, case files etc. but virtually every urban fantasy I've read by a woman author contains (most times almost immediately) the "sexy, powerful, mysterious" man that the main character cannot stay away from and "swoons" whenever he's near. Don't get me wrong having relationships in urban fantasy is not bad but it definitely should not be the primary focus. Every time I see the "mysterious" so and so who attracts the female character i want to grind my teeth. Is this about the creation of a new magic world or just another paranormal romance? if you spend 50% of your time writing about the relationship in the book I'll throw it in the trash. Now, I'll be honest and say I have a preference for gen but if you're going to spend a ton of time waxing poetic about his eyes, his six-pack etc and her attraction (it never fails that she cannot help but fall for him) then correctly label it. What about a strictly m\f friendship? Or a lesbian relationship (or authors too hesitant to bring that forward?) or how about no romantic relationships in the book or series? Male authors I have read have no problem in doing so. Not that they are better but their focus is by and large not fueled by romantic relationships. And to add to the rant some things besides the common romance we crop up time and time again we also have elements I never want to see again as they've been done to death. The beautiful heroine that swings a sword. Good lord get rid of the swords. The vampire/werewolf lover. Throw that one out the window too it's been done to death. The physically fit and gorgeous heroine. Seriously? Is there no heroine who could be a bit dumpy, less beautiful, clumsy (like Neville Longbottom in Harry Potter) because very few women fit that image of a gorgeous, powerful and totally fit woman. And hey where is there room for something like "I don't want to get involved in this shit type of attitude?" because every heroine in the common urban fantasy automatically makes a vow to save the world and dives right in. The creation of a magical world can be a wonderful, involving book but the way most (not all because I have read some women authors who don't go down the usual pathway when writing urban fantasy) have made a template and just keep writing that same template over and over again. Ugh. Rant done now.

I need to take at least a week off of work and find a beta willing and able to put up with me. I know a lot of folks *hate* mpreg fic but I have no problem with them in a supernatural setting AKA Teen Wolf, Harry Potter etc etc. Umm..in a magical world anything is possible right? I've always loved the character of Peter and felt he was the better match (from that fandom) for Stiles. I've had enough grumpy but lovable Derek fics to last a lifetime. Sure Derek is hot but dammit so is Peter. And he is more than capable of being as sassy (and dangerous as Stiles). I'm putting myself in firm denial that they'll stick Stiles in a het relationship. In my Teen Wolf world that ain't going to happen. Maybe I can find a week off in June or July to write. My work load is crazy busy with the fricking ACA messing up everything in healthcare so time is precious to me and I have had little time to even contemplate other than an outline but I think I can get there. Steter RULES!

I must admit I'm always perplexed as to why an aired show has to go under the cut (say two days later as today). Sure I know not everyone can see it immediately but my query is why don't they avoid the Internet for a few days until they do? Sure some folks have to *go* on the internet regardless and I do understand that and the different time zones etc. etc. cause some issues but I'd really like to discuss a few days after....a large portion of the fandom wig out if someone let's their POV out (in their opinion) early and say rather than "spoil" anyone it's easy to put the opinions/reactions under the cut. True. But why should the majority of fans who have seen the episode have to constantly monitor possible "spoiler" reactions? Yada Yada Yada I know not everyone in the world can see it in a immediately (some due to work/school/family or just because they want to wait until the weekend - (personal choice there) but the spoiler phobes might be a teensy bit overreacting no? Just looking for opinions on this touchy, touchy subject. Don't kill me.

Two of Boston's finest firefighters lost their lives fighting a nine alarm fire in Boston. One of which has three children. I hope they set up a fund for them because I will gladly contribute. But that doesn't take away the massive pain and grief those families must be suffering. One firefighter was only 33 (the one with three children). I'll never, ever understand why the good suffer and the motherfucking bastards in this world keep rolling along. My prayers go out to the families and the family that consists of *all* firefighters.

I'm not sure why I love them so much (Snape as biological parent/adoptive parent/guardian/mentor but it rings true to me that someone who had such a shit storm of a life be given a second chance in fanfic. Of course Harry would see him entirely differently if he'd met him when he was younger (maybe ages 5-8 which, generally, are my favorites). I remember a quote from Rowling way long ago about being curious/confused whatever as to why Severus as a character was so popular when he was so mean to Harry. I think for adults it's seeing a microscope of our own lives and how we've screwed up and paid the penalty (or penalized ourselves). For adults Severus' tale of redemption and how he tried so hard (even if sometimes he hit bumps in the road) tried to make it right makes my heart hurt. I've still never gotten over Rowling killing off Snape. Sure she killed off a lot of the adults from the first rise of Voldemort but letting the Malfoys survive and not Severus? Eh. I'm definitely one of those who sticks my fingers in my ears and la-la-la-la I refuse to accept that ending for Severus. Never mind, I just hope that writers continue to write these lovely alternative stories where Severus was given the chance to have a little happiness too.

I am not the type to harp on updating, I realize real life intrudes, sickness, family problems, work problems, scheduling problems etc. Etc. I mean it's happened to me and I've had to leave several fics high and dry but *why* would and author come right out and say that a fic might not be completed and randomly end some point? I seem to get that this is not the first time. Without explanation it does come across as I got started but I might get bored and then just stop. Why then would you start a fic in the first place? I know everyone's lives are different and, truthfully, none of my beeswax, but doesn't it seem a little rude to start and stop on, apparently, whim or am I being too hard on the Teen Wolf fandom? Of course, I can't read minds but a little gee" my life is hell right now" so this is why my fics go this way might go a long way to making that statement understandable and reasonable. If I knew that up front I'd just happily skip on by a fic that might not reach the goal the author outlined. Opinions?

Have you read Seanan McGuire's October Day novels, or her InCryptid series? They are awesome.
