Is There Research on How Safe & Effective the LP is?

Backed by Science and Research

The Lightning Process approach is supported by 17 studies. These include a Systematic Review and Randomised Controlled Trial, run by the NHS and the University of Bristol, that showed the LP is effective and safe. These types of studies are considered by researchers to be the best way to assess if something works or not.

Additionally, in a recent survey 98.2% of people said they would recommend it to others, suggesting that for them, it had value.

Research also identities that to get value from the Lightning Process you need to understand the research into how the brain, mind and body all affect health, as that is central to the approach.

Do Doctors Use it, and are Practitioners Registered?

Supported by Doctors and Researchers

The Lightning Process seminars are run by skilled, extensively trained and registered professionals, who are continually evaluated and abide by a code of conduct. The practitioner membership includes medical doctors and other health care professionals. Many doctors, healthcare professionals and researchers, have taken the LP to help improve their health.

Does it Help Everyone?

75,000 People Have Taken the LP

Lightning Process has a good track record of helping people. It’s graduates have achieved extraordinary milestones- going from bed-bound to back to work, school, university, parenting and even winning medals at the Olympics.

In a survey in 2024, 98.2% of people said they would recommend it to others.

However, no one approach is right for everyone. We recommend talking to a practitioner to work out if the LP is right for you, or not, at this stage of your recovery.

How Different is it From Hospital HealthCare?

A Whole Person Approach

Created in 1999 by Dr Phil Parker, a psychologist, osteopath and researcher, the Lightning Process has helped over 75,000 clients, from ages 6 to 90 to transform their health and wellbeing.

It approaches health using modern ideas that are less familiar in hospital medicine. Adding tools from the research into neuroplasticity (how the brain changes through use) and how you can improve your health by working on:

  • the way your brain, mind and body affect each other
  • stress
  • self-kindness or being hard on yourself?

Research has shown that the LP is not a purely psychological approach, but considers all aspects of well-being, and that combined with existing health approaches it helps those with physical health issues.

Where Can I Take it?

Valued Across the Globe

Available in 16 countries and online in 7 languages, transforming lives around the globe – we’ve even run outreach programs to help doctors cope with working in the poorest areas of Mombassa, Kenya. The LP is run by skilled registered professionals, including medical doctors and other health care professionals.

What does it cost?

It depends on where you take it in the world

As with healthcare around the world, different countries and practitioners will charge different amounts.

But to give an indication, the average cost in the UK for the 3 day course and follow-up support sessions is £900 – that works out to about £50 per hour, similar to the cost of physio, coaches and counsellors.
