Privacy Policy
1. Who We Are
LicenShield (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is operated by June Company, located at 654 Trollview Rd Bldg 2, Grants Pass, OR 97527, United States. LicenShield is a WordPress plugin licensing platform that allows developers and plugin authors to sell, deliver, and manage licenses for their own WordPress plugins.
For privacy questions, contact us at: info@licenshield.com
2. Who This Policy Applies To
This policy covers two distinct groups:
- Merchants — developers, agencies, and plugin authors who install LicenShield on their own WordPress site to sell and manage licenses for their plugins. Merchants purchase a LicenShield license directly from us.
- End Customers — individuals and businesses who purchase a plugin license through a Merchant’s website powered by LicenShield. End Customers do not have a direct relationship with LicenShield — their primary relationship is with the Merchant.
3. Information We Collect
3.1 Merchant Information
When you purchase a LicenShield license as a Merchant, we collect:
- Name and email address — to deliver your license key and provide support
- License key and site URL — to validate your active LicenShield subscription on your server
- WordPress, PHP, and plugin version — to deliver compatible software updates
- Support communications — retained to resolve your support requests
Payment details are collected and processed entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card number or billing address.
3.2 End Customer Information
When an End Customer purchases a plugin through a Merchant’s LicenShield-powered website, the following data passes through or is stored on the Merchant’s LicenShield installation:
- Email address — used to deliver the license key and purchase confirmation to the End Customer
- License key — generated and stored to validate the End Customer’s subscription
- Site URL — submitted by the End Customer’s plugin during license activation to associate the license with their site
- WordPress and PHP version — submitted during license activation and update checks
Important: This data is stored on the Merchant’s own WordPress server, which is controlled by the Merchant. We do not operate a centralized database of End Customer data. End Customers should refer to the Merchant’s own privacy policy for information about how their data is handled on that Merchant’s site.
The only End Customer data that may reach our infrastructure is anonymous usage statistics if a Merchant has enabled such reporting — and even then, no personally identifiable information is included.
3.3 Website Usage Data
When you visit licenshield.com, standard web server logs may record your IP address, browser type, referring URL, and pages visited. This data is not used to identify individuals and is purged after 90 days.
4. How We Use Information
| Data | Purpose | Legal Basis (GDPR) |
|---|---|---|
| Merchant email | Deliver license key, purchase confirmation, support | Contract performance |
| Merchant license key + site URL | Validate active subscription, deliver updates | Contract performance |
| WordPress / PHP version | Deliver compatible software updates | Contract performance |
| Support communications | Resolve support requests | Legitimate interest |
| Website analytics | Understand site usage, improve content | Legitimate interest |
We do not use data for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties.
5. Merchant Responsibilities for End Customer Data
If you are a Merchant using LicenShield on your own website to sell plugin licenses, you are the data controller for your End Customers’ personal data. This means:
- You are responsible for having a compliant privacy policy on your own website that covers how you collect, store, and use your customers’ data
- You are responsible for complying with applicable privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA, etc.) in your jurisdiction and your customers’ jurisdictions
- You are responsible for handling End Customer data access, correction, and deletion requests
- You are responsible for the security of your WordPress installation where LicenShield and customer data are stored
- You are responsible for your Stripe account configuration and compliance with Stripe’s terms
We provide LicenShield as a tool. We are a data processor only to the extent that the plugin code runs on your server — we are not a data controller for your customers’ information.
6. Third-Party Services
6.1 Stripe
License purchases from us are processed by Stripe, Inc. Merchants connect their own Stripe account to LicenShield to process their customers’ payments. We never have access to End Customers’ payment card details. Stripe’s privacy policy: stripe.com/privacy.
6.2 WordPress.org API
LicenShield uses standard WordPress update infrastructure. Version information may be shared with WordPress.org as part of routine update checks.
7. Data Retention
- Merchant license records: Retained for the duration of the subscription plus 3 years for accounting purposes
- Purchase records: Retained for 7 years as required by applicable tax law
- Support communications: Retained for 2 years after the last communication
- Website logs: Purged after 90 days
8. Your Rights
8.1 Merchant Rights
As a Merchant and our direct customer, you may contact us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data we hold about you. We will respond within 30 days.
8.2 End Customer Rights
If you are an End Customer who purchased a plugin through a Merchant’s site, your data rights requests should be directed to that Merchant. We do not control End Customer data stored on Merchant servers. If you are unsure who the Merchant is, contact us at info@licenshield.com and we will do our best to direct your request appropriately.
8.3 European Users (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability, and to object to processing. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority. To exercise these rights as a Merchant, email info@licenshield.com.
8.4 California Users (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, request its deletion, and opt out of its sale. We do not sell personal information. Contact us at info@licenshield.com to exercise your rights.
9. Cookies
licenshield.com uses essential cookies required for site functionality. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels.
10. Children’s Privacy
LicenShield is a developer tool not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.
11. International Data Transfers
Our servers are located in the United States. By using our services, you consent to the transfer and processing of your data in the United States. Where required by law, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place.
12. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption for all data in transit and restricted access controls. We will notify affected users in the event of a data breach as required by applicable law. Merchants are responsible for the security of their own WordPress installations.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date at the top and notify active Merchants by email for material changes.
