About Government Resources

logo of the Federal Depository Library ProgramWelcome to UNCW Library’s Government Resources page. UNCW Library is a member of the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) and the North Carolina State Clearinghouse. We receive resources that are produced by federal and state agencies and departments. These resources include online congressional hearings and committee prints, statistics, data, laws, journals, magazines, and much more. A wide range of subjects and topics are covered and resources are available in print and online.

UNCW Library is a congressionally designated depository for U.S. government publications. Public access to these government publications is guaranteed by public law, under Title 44, Chapter 19 of the United States Code. The U.S. Congress first authorized the distribution of government documents to universities, historical societies, and state libraries in 1813. The U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) opened on March 4th, 1861, the same day that Abraham Lincoln was sworn in as the 16th President.  GPO has overseen the FDLP since 1895. Currently, almost 1,100 libraries across the nation are members of the FDLP.
