Subject Librarians
Subject librarians can help faculty by:
- Establishing communications between the library and your department.
- Keeping you informed of changes, new acquisitions, interesting websites, etc.
- Attending departmental meetings to explain acquisition procedures, the facility, instructional offerings, etc.
- Preparing and regularly reviewing subject-specific communication tools, such as course and subject guides.
- Preparing and teach library instruction sessions.
Subject librarians can help students by:
- Assisting students with research assignments by helping them articulate their research question, identify the best sources, and formulate search strategies.
- Helping students when they don’t know where to start, or they can’t think of what to do next.
- Keeping students informed through newsletters that highlight new resources and programs, as well as with notices and timely reminders, such as extended library hours during finals week.
- Answering students' questions about library policies, procedures, interlibrary loans, and other research and library-related questions they may have.
