What is an annotated bibliography?
An annotated bibliography is a list of citations to books, articles, and other sources used in your assignment. Each citation is followed by a brief paragraph (called the annotation) that describes and evaluates the source.
How do I format my annotated bibliography?
An annotated bibliography entry consist of two components: the citation and the annotation.
Citation: the bibliographic information of the source (the title, author, publisher, date, etc), formatted in either MLA or APA format.
Annotation: a short paragraph (usually 3–5 sentences) summarizes and/or evaluates the source. Depending on your assignment, your annotation may include one or more of the following:
Summarize: What is the article about? What topics are covered?
Assess: Why is this source credible or useful?
Reflect: How does this source relate to or support your speech topic?
Be sure to check your assignment instructions for specific requirements.
