In the upcoming night (European time) I'll optimize the database of libranet.de to regain approx. 160 GB of free disk space.
During the optimization the node must be in maintenance mode. The whole process will take at least 5-6 hours.

I understand that there is an option to disclose the total number of users. But I completely dislike the option to fake data, since this taints the statistics.
I will code something to prevent the collection of this data.

There seems to be a new brainless fedi crawler. Blocked the shit right away.
Tons of requests to all local users like...

This produces a lot of 404 errors but can drive the server into a DoS situation.

I recently updated the database server from #MariaDB 11.4.x to the latest stable version 11.8.x. The query optimizer has been improved. The number of slow queries has decreased dramatically. I am pretty happy with the performance now.

can someone tell me how the whole "registration with invitation" is supposed to work? I'm totally lost. ๐
I have configured it in the local config file. The field for an invitation code is showing up in the registration form.
But how do I create an invitation code for someone?

After activating it via the configuration, you must assign a certain number of invitation codes to users.
bin/console user config set 'nickname' system invites_remaining 'x'The invitation codes appear in the invitation letter.

A lot of strings have been changed, so I guess we have to wait for the translations. When @Tobias has imported them to Transifex, I suggest to stop accepting PRs for the RC that change any strings.

A database update has been performed out of the blue. Update from version 1579 to 1580. Dropping and re-creating all db views included. I have not started an upgrade manually and the db version was already on 1580 before. Weird! ๐

Do you mean something, other than you, started a database update?
Is this controlled by a setting? My database version is 1576/1576, and I'm not aware of anything other than clicking "Check Database Structure" that would prompt an update, which I recently did this, but haven't changed versions.
What did I miss?

Did you maybe set up a clever auto update/downgrade script? ๐ฒ But seriously might be worth checking cron or unattended upgrades.
Expire Posts job in deferred queue with weird 'next try' date

can someone explain why the 'ExpirePosts' job is moved to the 'Deferred Workerqueue'? This doesn't make sense for me. Is it executed at all when it is moved to that queue?
Also, the dates are weird. The job is created on 2025-05-05 and next try is on 2025-03-31. Huh? What? When? Why? ๐
