Liberal Nominations Process
This is a pivotal moment for Canada — and Mark Carney and the Liberal Party of Canada are the only team with a plan to build a stronger economy, protect our communities, our sovereignty and our way of life, and empower Canadians with lower costs and more opportunities.
In the 2025 election, Mark Carney and our Liberal team earned a clear mandate from Canadians, electing a strong team of MPs from across the country — including the largest women’s caucus in Canadian history. That success was made possible in part by a thorough search for candidates — nominating local champions from across the country to bring their communities’ voices to Parliament.
Whenever the next campaign arrives, we’re ready to re-elect our dedicated Liberal team to Parliament — and elect even more talented, diverse, and committed community leaders as new Liberal MPs. Together, we can continue our work to build a stronger Canada.
We are pleased to announce the details of our new nominations process, that will help achieve important new engagement with Canadians in every part of the country.
Our team of Liberal MPs will be nominated again provided they meet the criteria of incumbent candidates, including:
- Having participated, since June 1, 2025, in at least three Voter Contact Days of Action events in their Electoral District.
- Having attempted, since June 1, 2025, at least 5,000 door knocks or 12,500 phone calls together with their volunteer team.
- Having a total of one hundred and fifty Victory Fund donors, or an increase of at least forty additional Victory Fund donors, based on the number of Victory Fund donors present in the Electoral District as of June 1, 2025;
- Having in its EDA bank account funds amounting to at least 65% of the anticipated election expense limit for that Electoral District for the 46th General Election.
Currently-unheld EDAs will also meet important standards for community engagement before local Liberals may proceed to nominate a new candidate, including:
- Before any nomination meeting is called, the EDA must be able to document a thorough search for potential contestants from communities or backgrounds who are underrepresented in Parliament — including but not limited to candidates who are women; Black, Indigenous, or people of colour; LGBTQ2; people with disabilities; and marginalized communities.
- Having at least 100 Registered Liberals in EDAs where the Liberal candidate was the runner-up in 2025.
- Having at least 50 Registered Liberals in EDAs where the Liberal candidate was anything other than the runner-up in 2025, or where there was a margin greater than 20%.
