Just thought I'd tap this mic. I dropped off the face of the earth there for a while. (Kept up with some of you on Facebook and the like.)

Life has been good. I have a beautiful 1.5 year old son. #momlife

[+] Just checking in! Still no baby! I'm 38 weeks, so I kept being told 'any day now', but am starting to feel like I will just be pregnant forever. ( Possibly TMI? Not too gross, I don't think...Collapse ) Oh well. Like Michael keeps telling me, I'm certainly not the first woman in the world to have a baby.

[+] I'm kind of a fannish failure. I didn't even finish most of my shows this year. I'm pretty wrapped up in a lot of my older fandoms (lots of Ethan/Kristina feelings lately, and John/Taylor feelings...yes), but probably nothing anyone would be super interested in. Still, if you've got anything you want to chat about, I'm around. Quiet, but around.

[+] Fannish stuff. I'm still super obsessed with Underground (finale tomorrow night!) It's a devastating story...but I feel like the show has had some missteps in the past few episodes. ( For instance...Collapse )

[+] I'm a thousand years late, but I am OBSESSED with Outlander! (Note the new default icon.)



And it's very exciting, with all the political intrigue and super graphic violence (seriously, I didn't think anything could shock me after Spartacus), and the sex is of course super hot, and I love all of the soap opera-ish time travel, but the best part of this show is the very real marriage between Jamie and Claire. I mean, Michael and I are nowhere that exciting and interesting, but I LOOOVE watching couples act like real couples and fight and get annoyed with each other and it's all the same sort of stuff that people always deal with. That's why The Reckoning is my favorite episode.

And of course, seeing her pregnant is giving me all sorts of feelings.

And while Jamie and Claire are of course the stars and the heart of things, I really need to hand it to Tobias Menzies, who is amazing. First of all, he switches between the dual roles so wonderfully, and you can see hints of Jack's darkness through Frank's kindness. (Can't really see hints of Frank's kindness through Jack's cruelty, but that would be a different sort of switch.) But also- Frank gets a bad rap for being the boring, fuddy-duddy that Claire *has* to settle with, but rewatching the first few episodes- they genuinely love each other and seem to have a lot of fun.

[+] I'm kept up with Grey's Anatomy, which is pretty great, relaxing tv for me. I feel like I'm watching adults be adults, without a whole lot of tv-style drama. Which sounds boring but is nice. Arrow...I don't know. I think I might be done after this year, unless there is something fantastic promised for Thea for next year (but I feel like something fantastic always *looks like* it's on the way for her). The Vampire Diaries- all I want out of life is for Bonnie and Enzo to ride off into the sunset together, happily. And Game of Thrones, I'm interested in the first time in forever, but I still think this show gets entirely too much credit from the whole world.

I'm behind on The Flash, New Girl and way behind on Legends of Tomorrow. ::shrug::

I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to meet...

[+] Thanks to the people who read my Downton Abbey fic! I actually have been scribbling away at another installment. This is an issue with me, and I wish it weren't. Does anyone else feel this way? Like, I feel like when I first cannonballed into fandom (LJ fandom that is) fics were generally in the realm of 2k words or so, and one-shots were the norm. Now part of it is my own brain just never shuts off after a certain idea, but I feel like very long, multi-chaptered fic is more the flavor of the day.

[+] Okay, friends. We have a new fandom love that hasn't hit me as hard as anything since, oh, Reign. Which I know turned out to be very silly and even stupid but I was *rabid* for that show that first year, living for episode after episode, and patiently (or not-so-patiently) waiting for the next. Part of the reason I've been Comfort Watching for the past year is that it's just *easier* to zone out with Netflix.

Okay! So...Is anyone watching Underground? It's having a bit of an uphill battle, since it's on WGN, which I had never even heard of before now. But I follow Jurnee Bell on Instagram, and I remembered her posting about it a while back, while they were filming. The bare bones of the show is that it's about a group of slaves in 1857 Georgia who are planning to escape via the Underground Railroad. Thematically, it's very close to another great fandom love of mine, Spartacus, but still very different and I am obsessed.

Like, see the subject matter and be forewarned- this show is not where you will be going to get your light and fluffies, your warm and fuzzies. But the characters are amazing, and beyond all that, it really is super entertaining. John Legend is an EP and they mix in modern music with the score and it works really, really well.

Also, there is a ship. You know. If you're into that kind of thing.

Walking myself through my answers for my most favorite meme of all time, I actually took one of those ideas and made it a reality. And I'm kind of shocked that it's been almost exactly a year (plus 3 days) since I last posted a fic. I actually thought it had been longer.

[+] In fannish news, I am still just watching shit that is like six years old, and letting my dvr pile up. (Though Michael has way more shit piled up. He watches every show ever on Discovery, like all of that Gold Rush, Ax Men, Swamp Men, Moonshine Men...let me tell you, that shit is BORING.)

[+] In any case...Downton Abbey. Still. It's so, so lovely. And so funny at this point, because Mary and Matthew keep addressing each other as 'Cousin Mary' and 'Cousin Matthew'. I totally forgot that they did that. (And then just kind of miraculously fell in love.) I've just seen Tom Branson's first episode. My gosh, he was so sweet in the beginning! He was in love with Sybil, like, right away and I think she's only meant to be about 16 then. But him peeking through the parlor window to see her in her little Jasmine outfit?



Great. Now I'm crying.
