Snippets from a machine quilter…

About me

patquilt

Hello — I’m Pat, the heart and hands behind Lemon Tree Snippets. I’m a machine quilter, fabric adventurer, and color enthusiast, driven by a lifelong love for art, texture, and visual storytelling.

My quilting journey began when I discovered how fabric and geometry could combine to become something more than the sum of their parts. What started as combining scraps and playing with patterns has evolved into a continual exploration of light, shadow, and movement through textile work. I draw inspiration from the world around me — nature, photographs, magazine palettes, architecture — wherever a burst of color or an intriguing contrast catches my eye.

I gravitate toward bright, lively hues, and I love working in abstract and improvisational styles. Over time, I’ve incorporated metallic threads, beads, yarns, and unexpected embellishments to build texture and surprise into my pieces. What interests me most is how shapes and values interact — how a small shift in tone or layout can transform the visual flow.

Quilting, for me, is both expression and experiment. With each new project, I push myself to grow — to stretch past comfort zones, try new techniques, and uncover fresh ideas. I hope through sharing my work, tutorials, and reflections here, I can spark new ideas in you — whether you’re a seasoned quilter or just starting.

When I’m not quilting, I’m likely browsing fabric lines, sketching color ideas, or soaking in the Blue Ridge foothills (my home is not far from these inspiring mountains).

Thanks for joining me here in my little corner of cloth and color. I hope you’ll stay awhile, explore the snippets, and maybe create something unexpected along the way.

Creatively yours,
— Pat

  1. Hi Pat – Thanks for following me over at Snip-Itz – Little Notes from Whimzie Quiltz. Snippets, Snip-Itz… great minds think (almost!) alike, huh? And it’s not just our blog names, as I love bright colored quilts the most, too! Looking forward to following your blog also. Warm wishes, D

  2. Hi Pat,
I’ m making your Hot Toddy table runner from the pattern I found in the Nov/Dec 16 issue of McCall’s Quilting. I’m making it out of black, grey, white and red and I think it’s going to be perfect for my friend’s retirement. I have a question about the size of the blocks. Block C is supposed to be 4×4 but I don’t see how to do that when the red square is 4 1/2 before adding the white triangles. I see it has to be 4×4 to fit but if I trim it it ends up being only the red square. Please help! I’m missing something but I don’t know what it is! Thank you
