Good day, my friends! Welcome to Leisure Lane.
I came across a poem I wrote many years ago, and it got me thinking today….When the waves get rough, do I get tough or do I get washed up? Well, I must admit that at times I do both. I’d like to share the poem with you, as it may speak to you today.
The Sailor
Once there was a sailor,
who sailed the ocean blue.
His song was always happy
and his words were always true.
One day, the waves got rougher,
and he sailed his boat to shore.
I cannot tell you, brother,
if he’ll sail her anymore.
Perhaps many of you can relate to this poem. Perhaps at one time you were quite content, happy, and full of your true self. Then, one day – or a series of days – caused you some rough sailing. Did you lose yourself in those situations? Did they pile up until you hardly knew who you were anymore? Perhaps you worked through them, thinking you were back to your good old self until one day a thought, a memory, or another situation arises to let you know you are still phased by those previous rough waters. I know I’ve experienced those moments, and if truth be told, I still do. And sometimes, we need to sail our boat to shore, take a breather, and get our land legs steady again. There is no shame in that. In fact, it’s a sign of true strength to know when we need to step back and regroup. But, the question remains…will we sail out again? And if so, when those rough waters rear up again, will we sail to shore immediately or will we stand up and take command over ourselves and those waves. Each time we do, we will get stronger and our sailing back to shore will be on our terms…not because we couldn’t handle the rough sea, but because we did!
Thank you for visiting today. I hope my poem and this post has spoken to you in some way and can be of some help – even a bit. Be a little stronger, a little more confident, a little steadier every day, and be blessed. Until next time…
May happy days abound!
