Screen Capture & Sharing Tools

What you need for capturing and sharing feedback during UAT — and what’s handy for everyday collaboration.

Clear visuals make feedback faster to understand and fix. The great news for UAT is that you don’t need to assemble your own toolkit — the tool we use captures everything for you. The other options below are simply nice to have for general collaboration outside of testing.

During UAT, Marker.io does it all

For User Acceptance Testing, Marker.io is the only tool you need. It adds a “Report an issue” widget directly to your site, and when you use it, it automatically captures:

  • A screenshot of exactly what you’re seeing, with annotation tools to circle and point out the issue.
  • An optional screen recording, if a short video explains it better than a still image.
  • The page URL, your browser, your device, and behind-the-scenes console details.

That last part matters more than it sounds: those automatically captured details are often what let our team reproduce and fix an issue quickly. Because Marker.io gathers them for you, there’s no need to take your own screenshots, note the URL, or describe your setup during UAT. Just open the widget and report.

For the full walkthrough, see How to report an issue in Marker.io.

Tools for screen recordings

When a written explanation isn’t enough, a short recording can show an issue from start to finish. For step-by-step or more complex situations. You can then include the link to a screen recording in your Marker.io report description.

Tools for everyday screenshots

Outside of UAT, a quick screenshot is often the fastest way to share what’s on your screen. A few we like:

  • Droplr and Zight (formerly CloudApp) — both have strong annotation tools and let you share securely without requiring a login.
  • ShareX — free and open source, for Windows.
  • The built-in Snipping Tool (Windows) or Screenshot tool (Mac).

Sharing securely

Many of the tools above offer built-in secure sharing. If you need more control, you can upload images and videos to a shared folder your team already trusts:

  • Notion
  • Microsoft OneDrive
  • Google Drive
  • Dropbox
