Ugh.

After such a positive post yesterday, today freaking sucked. More reminders today as to why I freaking hate this city so much. I'm home early on the premise that I'll do some work tomorrow from home.

I'm glad I have tomorrow off and Friday too. I think this week would be excruciatingly long if I didn't.

Update! It's about time, neh?

Work's been keeping me busy. I'm used to it, but I do miss my free time, more so for the fact that I can't get anything done. 9-5:30 means all businesses are closed before I'm out. Meaning either I have to work late to get it done, or I have to take care of it on the weekends, eating up my free time. Bah.

Saturday night was fun times. Early 4th of July fireworks over in Penfield with the ol' highschool gang (some of 'em, at least). They always put on a good show there. Plus, going to them pretty much all-but-drunk was something I'd not done yet. I will be doing that again. Melon Liquer (Midori?) and Sour Apple Schnapps together is amazing, and it hits hard. Quite awesome.

I have the ACTUAL 4th off, which will be nice, making this a 3 day work week.

On that note, yes, I am going to be at AC. I'll be driving down on Thursday after work with darkpaw, kalarceet, and kailucidricwolf, all of which I'm also rooming with. I don't have a room # yet, but I intend to find that out tomorrow or Wednesday.

If you want my cell #, since I'll have it with me all through the con, leave me a note here, and I'll contact you with it somehow. I don't want to post it publicly (for obvious reasons), so just be patient and deal with my absolute-lack-of-timeliness in getting back to you.

That's my life in a nutshell about now. S'all good. Bringing in the proverbial bacon is nice. Can't wait till those are proverbial steaks.

Till I post again!

Guess who got time off for AC? Awwz yeah bitches.

Next challenge: Finding a hotel room at this point. I don't care though, honestly, if I have to sleep on the floor or room bounce, I'm going this year.

Gonna start plannin' NOW!

So the interesting thing about my job is that I'm part of a collective of companies run under the same person. My boss manages quite a few subsidiaries, and they all go through him. I work for Atomic Design, which is our web / design based branch. He also manages Cool Cool Video, which is used for streaming video project and some photography work. He ALSO manages Tradeshow Models . Net, which is basically a collab service in which he has references to nearly 3000 models from the United States and hires them for people for shows that they need. He gets part of the cut, yadda yadda, it all works out.

My boss is a nice guy. He'll sit and laugh when you have something funny to say, and he'll be genuinely concerned when there's something not right with a project you're working on, and he'll try to help. Really outgoing (you'd have to be to run 3 companies) and all around a nice boss to work for. It takes a lot to set him off.

Today, someone set him off. Not an employee, but one of the models for a recent show.

A girl, we'll call her "Gloria", called in directly to his line today and started yelling so loud that, even before he put her on speakerphone, I could hear her in his office. After about 5 minutes of just listening to this bitch scream, he put her on hold and called all 7 of working us into his office to listen.

The problem was that every other model who had worked a recent gig that she was at through his hiring had received their checks. She had not. The reason? Her check got sent out on Monday, whereas everyone elses had got sent out on Friday. Why the difference? Because she didn't have an address listed, and he had to dig it up over the weekend.

This is nearly verbatim the conversation that went on when we were all in the office listening:

C = Chris (my boss)
G = Gloria (the bitch)

G: I WANT MY DAMNED CHECK, I EARNED THAT MONEY
C: It will probably be there tomorrow, we sent it out Monday.
G: WELL I DONT FUCKING CARE, EVERYONE ELSE GOT THEIRS TODAY. WIRE ME THE MONEY OR SOMETHING.
C: The check is already on the way, I can't wire you money and then cancel the check in under 24 hours due to security reasons.
G: WELL WHO THE FUCK SENT OUT CHECKS INCORRECTLY THEN?
C: We didn't have your address on file because you wouldn't give it to us in the first place, and then asked us to mail your check. You never got back to us WITH an address so we had to hunt it down through your previous employers. You're lucky we even found it.
G: BULLSHIT. YOU FIND THE BITCH THAT HANDLES CHECKS AND TELL HER TO GET MY CHECK TO ME TODAY.
C: ... that *cough* bitch would be my wife, and she's on maternity leave, thank you very much.
G: *stammering*
C: Watch your mouth next time, maybe you'd still have a place with my company.

Beautiful.

So as anyone who lives around Rochester knows, the Lilac Festival is here.

For those of you who don't live around Rochester, or don't know what it is, click on that link above to take a look (the website kinda sucks...).

If there's one thing I like about Rochester (and believe me, one is probably pretty close to the real number), it's the amount of art and music influence that the community seems to exude. Between this, the Fairport Canal Days, and our most awesome Park Ave. Fest, the spring, summer, and fall have plenty to go around.

I'm going to the Lilac Festival today with my mom, her boyfriend, my aunt and uncle, to hear my cousin's band play. It should be good times. I've heard them before and they have a wonderfully cohesive synnergy with each other in the style of Modern Top 40's and Guitar Rock.

I encourage anyone ever in the area to try to attend one of these events. They're a sight to behold.

So this whole job thing has got me running on little to no free time except in the evenings. It's life, I'll deal, but wow what a freaking mindblow. My schedule is so messed up compared to my normal.

I've been going to bed at like 12:30. For anyone who knows me, that's total WTF.

Granted the job has been going very well, at least, I hope. I'm enjoying it immensely and actually getting projects done that they assign me, and I think my project manager is happy with my pace. I suppose when my 1st month mark hits, I'll see (end of next week, booyah). The environment is wonderful though, and I have my own corner with a window view and a lovely dual-computer set up for cross platform work. The environment is really casual too, I love walking into work in jeans and a button down untucked. No tie, no suit, no formal bullshite.

Of course, seeing as I get home at 6 PM every day, everything is closed by then, and I can't run any errands. So guess what today is? Yep. Every freaking location known to mankind and then some phone calls. Bwuh. Should be back not too late today, but I really detest the amount of things that pile up that I'd normally take care of during the week, but now I cant.

I think I'll celebrate my first paycheck combined with a best buy gift card and replace this shitty 17" CRT monitor.

Also, I'm planning on getting time off for AC. I really hope so, at least. More info to come (lol no hotel rooms... this is gonna be fun).

Anyway, gotta run before banks close. Oshi...

08:15 am - Ze update

Firstly a big thank you for everyone who wished me a happy birthday in whatever form they managed yesterday. Whether it was IMs, on here, or other means, it was truly appreciated and I thank you! In addition, thank you in advance for anyone who puts the happy birthday on this post. Don't apologize for missing it, I know you all have busy schedules and / or cant keep track of everyones birthdays (I know for sure that I cant). So thank you to all of you :)

Secondly, a big thanks for zachary_geminus for giving me a nudge and reminding me to write in here, and also a big hug for him since I know he's going through quite a bit lately. Here's to hoping your situation gets better, and you can find some resolve through it all.

Thirdly, and in my life, most importantly, I have a real freaking 9-5 job. Well, 9-5:30 if you wanna be technical about it. I'm working for a tight knit Web firm that does design / development for any number of clients, including quite a few photo / modeling promotions. It's right here in Rochester and my boss is willing to keep me on for co-op experience as a freelancer (for the time being), and then hopefully once that's all done I'd be hired full-time (which is both of our hopes). Adjusting my sleep schedule is gonna be rough this first week, but I think it will get better as my body starts randomly shutting down on me in the late afternoon and telling me I need to sleep earlier.

Oh, and lastly, thank you Spring for finally showing up. I was getting sick of that Winter fellow.

Ok, so, it seriously needs to warm up here. Today it's 10F with windchill, supposed to get colder as the day goes on. Two nights ago it was 4F. Yesterday it was 7F. And last night it was 5F. All I want is temperature in the double digits OVER 30. Is that too much to ask? Guh.

<-- Turning into an Arctic Fox.

In other news, I've pretty much fully moved into my new place now. Still have to do a mound of laundry and put that all away, but that aside, I've got a nice little set up going. My room is small-ish, but cozy, and everything MATCHES. The blinds, the paint, even my chair, bedspread, and table: nice shades of midnight blue. I know darker colors make the room look small, blah blah, whatever, don't care. It's very calming and it makes it easy to sleep at night.

My "step-brother" and I are getting along well. I use that in quotes because technically my father and his girlfriend aren't married, so he's really just a family friend, but he's close enough at this point. I didn't label him as a nerd at first, but he was quite anxious to play my Gamecube and PS2, and to top it off, he was ecstatic to find my stash of M:TG cards and is "jonesing to play" with his own decks. Awesomesauce.

I have a few things that still need taking care of (mail forwarding, for one, note to self...), but otherwise I'm doing good. Hopefully I'll find a job (co-op) soon, but I'm more than happy to let my brain unwind for a while, and my father has no problems with it.

Oh and I've decided to get back into shape. I worked out a little bit yesterday with some weights and did a light bit of step-machine for some legs / cardio. I'm sick of being unnecessarily out of energy and with no upper body strength / definition. Lets see if I can stick to a routine.

Ta for now!

Dear Content Self,

In the future, try not to store so much useless crap so that when you have to move, it does not become an all night ordeal. You have too many clothes that you never wear. Too many trinkets that you never have a place to put or care about. You will never read those books again, and why do you even have two lava lamps?

Sincerely, Exhausted Self

On another note, I have the itch to start writing again. News at 11.

edit:
P.S. Thanks for all who wished me thanks and luck on the previous post. You have no idea how happy I am to be getting out of here :)
