The Calma Lounge has an iconic yet timeless expression defined by the tension between the pillowed softness inside the lounge and the minimalist wraparound exterior shell. The elegantly contoured body comprises a backrest with integrated arms that wraps around a plump, cushioned seat, with an optional enveloping headrest. This minimalist form conceals a highly technical, weight-activated reclining mechanism that is operated using a crafted leather tab discreetly located between the seat and backrest. The dynamic movement of this reclining mechanism is alluded to by the subtle angularity of the chair’s form. The Calma Lounge is an expansion of the popular collection of Calma task chairs designed by LAYER for Andreu World in 2022. Using an iterative design process, the LAYER team developed the signature visual language of the Calma collection to create an instantly recognisable lounge chair to stand out in the market. Our engineering team also collaborated with our design team to develop the discrete reclining mechanism.
