Okay, if you’re here, reading my author bio, wow. Thank you! I mean, how many people actually read these things? I understand that there’s some unwritten rule that authors must supply their bios on their websites, but does anyone really care? Perhaps you do. Because here you are, reading my bio.
I’ll try to make it short and sweet.
For the first twenty (or so) years of my life, I wanted to be an actress. I loved Shakespeare and I still do! I majored in theater at the University of Minnesota, Duluth. Afterwards, I moved down to Minneapolis (how many people can say they moved down to Minneapolis?!), where I embraced the grunge culture of the 90s by working in coffee shops, watching Friends, and performing with several different comedy improv groups. When I began writing sketch comedy for said groups, I realized that I was better at writing than performing.
But alas, such a lifestyle was not sustainable. Thus, I went back to school, got my MA in secondary education, and became a high school English teacher. During this time, I also got married and had two kids. Working fulltime and being a mother is HARD, and I no longer had the energy or desire to perform. But I needed a creative outlet, so I began writing novels. And once I started, I just couldn’t stop.
After twenty-one years teaching, I stopped so I could focus more on writing. Now, I can proudly say that I’ve self-published many books, as well as being published by smaller publishing houses like Black Rose Writing, Kindle Press, and Wild Rose Press. I’ve also completed my master’s degree in creative writing through Lindenwood University and I’ve had several of my short stories published in online literary journals. (You can find links to all these stories under Awesome Bonus Materials on my website.)
Some of my proudest moments, writing-wise:
The Next Breath winning The Kindle Book Award for best romance.
The Standout being a Kindle Scout award-winner.
My favorite short story that I wrote, “You and Jane” being published by Abandon Journal.
All the fabulous authors who gave me incredible blurbs for The Side Project.
When one of my favorite authors ever, Catherine McKenzie, gave me a blurb for Favorite Daughters.
Later, Lori & Julia of 107.1’s hugely popular LOJ’s Book Club on MyTalk Radio, interviewed me about Favorite Daughters.
The wonderful support and encouragement I’ve received from Bookstagram influencers for my most recent release, My Winter Song to You.
Most of my books have some sort of literary influence, and I love writing about female authors/writers who’ve been deemed as geniuses, like Jane Austen, the Brontes, Agatha Christie, and Taylor Swift.
That’s all for now–thanks again for reading my “About” section. I hope you’ll stick around and read my books as well!
