I have noticed lately that a lot of new members are joining the pixel community here on lj and there is some confusion over the terms we use. This is a handy dandy guide to the basic terms we use, it is by no means complete and there are makers who use their own terms so you should always read each maker's individual rules to be sure!

Lets just start at the beginning shall we?

Maker: a Maker is someone who makes graphics.

Blinkie: a Blinkie is a graphic of varying sizes that has boxes with a name or short phrase on it with one letter per box. This is an example of a blinkie


Blinkie Box: Blinkie boxes are the little boxes at the bottom of that blinkie, we also call them boxes. Some makers only use boxes that they have made themselves, some makers purchase boxes from other makers. It is considered very bad manners and straight up theft to take the boxes off of a blinkie and use them without permission.

Sigtag: Also known as a siggie, a sigtag is a graphic of varying sizes that does not have boxes on it. Instead of boxes a person's name is put on it in a nice font. This is an example of a sigtag


Icon: An icon is something very exclusive to lj. It is a graphic that is 100x100 pixels square, customized with a person's name. Due to the restrictions of lj it has to be under the size limit of 40KB to be uploaded. This is an example of an icon


Pixel Text: Pixel text refers to small text that is on a blinkie but not on the boxes. On the following blinkie the words "Proud American" are an example of pixel text. Sometimes a maker will add a predetermined pixel text, sometimes a maker will allow you to choose your own pixel text.


Now come the fun and more complicated terms! First up the terms for pixel types.
Freeware: Freeware pixels are pixels that are not made by hand. They are generally taken from Japanese or Korean mini home room websites such as sayclub and cyworld. Many of them can be found at such communities as pixelpeach or sayclubsandmore

Paid Pixels: Paid Pixels, also known as tubes, are pixels that are drawn by hand by many talented people. These pixels or tube packs are sold to makers to use in their graphic creations. As with boxes it is considered theft to use these items without permission.

Grayscales: Grayscales are a base for tubes. A very talented person will draw a pixel by hand and shade it all in gray. These are sold to other talented people who wish to color them for their own use or, with the proper license, to sell to other makers. Grayscales must be colored before they can be used to make graphics.

Lines: Lines are are even more basic base for tubes. Lines are used as a starting point for a tube. They are the outline and major details such as facial features or patches on a teddy bear. As the pixeler colors them in they add more detail such as shading to make the line a beautiful tube.

Next up are the types of requests that makers may take.
Freebies: A freebie is a graphic that a maker has made is offering for free to people in a certain community. It may be an unlimited offer where everyone that wants one can requests it or it may be a limited offer where only a certain number of people may request it. Be sure to read each offer post carefully for this type of information.

Paid Requests: Paid requests are a way for makers to make money by selling graphics to people that want them. Some makers take paid requests all year round, some makers only offer them at certain times or when they have time.

Loved List: A loved list is a list of people who are allowed to request beyond the limits on an offer. Some makers only put their friends or people that are special to them on their loved list. Some makers sell spots on their loved list to people who want to be able to request all of their offers.

Pick Ups: When a maker is done with all of the graphics for a freebie or a paid request order they will make a "pick up post" with all of the graphics. The people who requested the graphics need to watch for pick up posts and save their graphics and leave a comment on the post so that the maker knows they saved their graphic.

A few last items
Theme Week: A theme week is a special thing, it is generally a paid bundle of graphics. Makers will make up a bunch of graphics that fit a certain theme and sell spots to be a member of the theme week. Loved lists don't generally apply to theme weeks or other paid requests. The maker will make a few graphics each day for all of the members of them theme week. The graphics will be delivered to the members every day for the duration of the theme week. The graphics are generally a surprise until the day they are delivered.

Goodie bag: A goodie bag is bundle of graphics that a graphic maker offers generally for sale. A good bag usually has a number of graphics that all match a specific theme such as valentines or fairies. The graphics may be any type that the maker wants. These graphics are only available in the goodie bag.

I personally ask everyone that requests from me if they are a member or a maker. If you do not make graphics in the community that you are request in then you are a member. Other makers ask if you are loved or not. It is our way of keeping track of how many people have requested from our limited offers. Many makers don't count other makers in their offers.

If you have any questions about this please ask. If any makers would like to add to this please do. If makers want to link to or borrow this glossary you may.

1. Be polite. I won't stop making for you if you aren't but it is nice to see "please" and "thank you" when I offer things.

2. Please credit laurahonest and the community. If I use paid pixels credit for them will be in the file names so please do not change them.

3. Pick up within two weeks so that if I need to clear space in my server I can. Do not hotlink your graphic off of my server, when I clear space you will lose your graphic. Comment when you pick up so I know you got it.

4. All Community Rules apply.
*I make in several communities that I do not own, if a community has special rules beyond what I have you must also obey them.

5. Do Not Remove my graphics from livejournal, myspace and facebook are NOT allowed. I do allow dreamwidth use, my username there is also laurahonest. Personal websites and email signatures are ok, please use protection scripts to deter theft. If you need the scripts I can give them to you.

6. While I do not mind occasionally making a graphic with your nick name, family name, child's name or adding pixel text to a graphic, it can get overwhelming to see these requests on every offer. Please do not ask for extra things that are not included in the form unless you are loved or ordering PR's.
*Hearts, stars and other special characters are at my discretion. I will add them if I think they are needed and will not add them if I don't think they are needed.
*I will not ever use blank boxes.
*Pick a name and stick with it!
*Do Not request for your friends (unless ordering prs), if you think they would like it, send them the link and have them request their own please.

7. Most of all, Enjoy the graphics I make for you. I do this because I enjoy it, I want you to enjoy them too.

In my latest Vox Box from Influenster was a voucher for a free Müller yogurt of my choice. I like yogurt but I hadn't tried the Müller ones before getting this voucher. So I checked online to see what varieties are available. There are tons of different flavors and types.

The first type I tried was Greek Corner Strawberry. This yogurt is delicious! The yogurt is sweet and creamy but doesn't feel like a sugar overload. The strawberries are delicious and not at all gelatinous. The strawberries mix into the yogurt beautifully and it tastes heavenly! I don't generally eat breakfast, or at least not until I have been awake and moving for a couple of hours. I hate the heavy feeling of food right after I get up. This yogurt is light and the portions are perfect for a simple light breakfast that doesn't leave that heavy feeling in my stomach!

I enjoyed the free one so much that I went back and bought several more! I have a bunch in my fridge that I haven't had a chance to try yet but I can't hardly wait!

This morning I tried Lemon Fruit Up. This one was amazing too! This is an airy lemon mousse on top of a sweet creamy yogurt. The mousse was the perfect amount of sour and tangy. The yogurt was delicate and sweet. Mix the two together and it is just amazing. The cup size is a little smaller than the corner packages, it is also a bit cheaper. This one left me sad when the cup was empty, I wanted more!

Overall I am loving this yogurt. It is low fat and low sugar but it doesn't feel like it! The flavors are perfect and it feels like an indulgence to eat them!

If you guys like yogurt you should definitely try these out!

If you have a smart phone or a tablet you should check out the Doctor Who legacy app for it. http://www.tinyrebelgames.com/ The game lets you collect Doctors and companions as you beat the levels. The levels are a gem swapping game but it has story narration and you are turn by turn defeating Doctor Who villains. I have been playing for a while and now and it is a fun little app. You can really tell the app creators are fans of both new and classic Who. There is a lot of detail and the art is just great! The game has a feature to buy "time crystals" that let you upgrade or beat levels or buy characters. It is not necessary to buy things though if you don't want to. I have been playing for months and only recently bought some to show support for the game. It is entirely possible to beat the game without spending money. I dislike it when a game requires you to spend money but this one doesn't.

Anyway, go check all of these things out if you are a Doctor Who fan. If you aren't a Doctor Who fan, why aren't you?

I reviewed the NYC Color HD Trio over here separately. To sum up; it is awesome, you should go check it out!

Duck Tape Ducklings- This is a mini roll of duck tape in a super cute print! My print is Blue Surf Flower. It is the same as regular duck tape but mini and cuter! It is just as strong as the original and it holds just as well but it is cute. There is blue surf flower duck tape all over from all of the little things I have fixed with it around here!

Show Off! Lip Lacquer- I love this stuff! I received the color "Luna" which isn't the best color for me, it is just a touch too orange for my taste. Despite that this stuff is great! It is smooth and silky on my lips. It doesn't get sticky when it dries. The applicator makes it go on evenly and without a lot of hassle. It keeps my lips feeling soft for a long time! It has a hint of shimmer but it isn't glittery and doesn't make me look or feel like a pre-teen in the "pretend make up" section! I am keeping my eyes open looking for more of this, I'd like to get one in a color that I like a little better!

Puffs to Go- I love these little packs of puffs! I received this just as I was getting over a cold. The small package fits easily in pocket or purse to take anywhere! The tissues are super soft and don't irritate my nose. They are great for that post cold tender stage!

Skinny Cow- I received the creamy peanut butter Divine filled Chocolates. They are divine! The chocolate is sweet and perfect. The peanut butter is creamy and smooth. They are tasty and they are packaged in a sensible little sleeve with 3 chocolates in it. It is the perfect serving size! They are low fat but they don't taste low fat. I think everyone should check these out!

I honestly couldn't find anything in this box that I didn't like, everything was great!

I received this product from Influenster for testing and review purposes. I loved this product! I received the palette "Long Beach Sands" which is a beautiful palette for my skin and eye colors. The texture of the eyeshadow is perfect! It is easy to apply. It doesn't leave a dusty residue or fall off of my eyelids like some dry powdered eyeshadows can. The colors blend nicely. This lovely trio makes gorgeous eye make up easy! Everything is prefectly matched and labeled to make it so easy that even a make up moron like me can do it! This comes in a huge range of colors so you should be find the perfect color palette for you! I definitely recommend that you try it out!

This is a product review for Annie's Home Grown, White Cheddar Mac & Cheese Cup

★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ I give this product 2 stars out of 5. I disliked this product.

I received this product from Influenster for testing and review purposes. Unfortunately I have to say that I disliked this product. No one in my family would eat it. I feel that it was probably the flavor because it looked good but the taste was not so good. The noodles cooked easily in the cup and it was a very quick meal. It would be a great thing to serve kids in a hurry if it tasted better. I like that it is organic and mostly chemical free. I really wanted to like this product. I plan to try a different flavor because I really think this would be a great thing to have on hand as a busy mom. If you like white cheddar maybe you would like this better than I did!

This is a review for Dr. Scholl's® For Her Comfort Insoles

★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ I give this product 4 stars out of 5. I liked it a lot.

I was given a pair of these delightful insoles by Influenster for testing and review purposes. These insoles are wonderful! They make less than comfortable shoes into shoes you can wear all day. They fit into shoes from size 6-10 without having to be cut down like older insoles. They are thin and light and fit in my shoes comfortably. They are gel insoles so they are lovely to stand on and don't make my shoes feel crowded. The only thing I don't like about them is the arch is just a tad too high for my feet. My arches are not very high so it adds just a bit too much thickness there but despite that, they are still wearable and add comfort to my shoes.

If you have some shoes that you love but they don't love your feet, try a pair of these insoles!

This is a review for Colgate Slimsoft Toothbrush

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I give this product 5 stars, I loved it!

I have really awful teeth. I have tons of cavities and sensitive spots. It is difficult to find a toothbrush that makes my teeth feel clean without making my gums bleed or causing me pain due to the cavities. I was recently sent a Colgate Slimsoft toothbrush to test and review from Influenster. Initially, I thought that I would be disappointed with this toothbrush as I generally find that soft bristles don't leave my teeth feeling clean. I was very pleased to find that my teeth do actually feel cleaner than with my previous medium bristled tooth brush. I also found that my gums did not bleed at all! I did still get the unpleasant feeling of toothbrush bristles in my cavities.

Overall I am very pleased with this toothbrush. I will be switching to this brand when my sample toothbrush is in need of replacement!

This is a review for House of Many Ways by Diana Wynne Jones.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I give this book 5 stars, I loved it!

House of Many Ways follows the story of Charmaine Baker as she suddenly finds herself house sitting for her magician uncle while he is away. All Charmaine wants to do is quietly read a book and help the King with his private library but nothing goes quite according to her plan. Her uncle's house is a huge mess, he forgot to mention that he had an apprentice coming and Charmaine is completely unaccustomed to dealing with magic or doing housework. When the King agrees to have her help with his library she thinks she will get a break from all of the weird things in her uncle's house but she soon finds that not all is as it seems at the palace either. The King is scouring his library for clues to find a large pile of gold missing from the treasury for over 200 years and the Princess asked a witch to help them search.

Charmaine is pulled into the mystery when she saves a toddler from falling off the roof of the palace and finds herself talking to a fully fledged wizard in disguise. A spell is cast to help her find any clues in the library that they need to save the kingdom. With the spell cast all of the seemingly unconnected things happening around Charmaine begin to connect. It is a race against time, she has to follow the trail of clues and solve all of the mysteries before it is too late.

Diana Wynne Jones weaves an interesting tale. I was half finished with the book before I even noticed! She reveals just enough to keep you interested and keeps leading you along until the very end. The seemingly random events of the book all tie together in a surprising way. You can't help but love the characters from poor Charmaine who just wants to read peacefully, to the directionally challenged apprentice wizard, to the doddering old King and the wizard disguised as a precocious child who loves rocking horses. Nothing is quite as it seems in this story and if you aren't paying attention you'll get lost in the House of Many Ways!

(This book is a sequel to Howl's Moving Castle and Castle In The Air but it can stand alone. Some of the characters from it's prequels make appearances but it is not necessary to have read the prequels to follow this story.)

This is a review for Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman.

★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ I give this book 4 stars out of 5. I liked it a lot.

Mind the Gap
Neverwhere is the story of an average man who discovers that the world is not a simple as it seems. Richard Mayhew makes his fiance very angry when he stops to help an injured girl on the way to an important dinner with her boss. He knows the dinner is important but he can't just leave a young girl bleeding on the sidewalk. This act of kindness turns his world upside down. Everyone knows that you have to mind the gap on the London Underground, everyone hears the warnings over the loudspeakers but Richard is about to learn the real meaning behind the warnings. He quickly learns there is more to London than meets the eye and those who are unlucky fall through the cracks. The more he tries to help the girl, the deeper he gets dragged into the "underground" and the harder it is for him to go back to his normal life. Richard has fallen through the cracks and he has to learn to cope with a whole new set of rules. He has to survive in order to get his life back, but the new world is much more dangerous than the one he is used to.

Gaiman's story is well written, you can't help but sympathize with the nice guy who got dragged in over his head trying to help someone. The underground world works in a whole new way and keeps the reader guessing right along with Richard. Just when you think you know how the story goes, Gaiman throws you a curveball and you have no idea if Richard will find his way through the underworld and back to his ordinary life or if he will stay where he landed when he fell through the cracks. Gaiman has a way of telling a story that just grabs you by the hand and drags you along until the end and then leaves you wondering how it ended so fast.

If you are a fan of Neil Gaiman you definitely need to read this one. If you enjoy stories about the secret worlds hidden within the ordinary one, you should read this one. If you have ever wondered why you need to "Mind the gap," you will not be disappointed with the answer.

This is a review for Fairy Tail Volume 1 by Hiro Mashima.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I give this title 5 stars, I love it!

Fairy Tail is about a cute young wizard named Lucy. Lucy wants to join the famous wizarding guild Fairy Tail. While traveling around Lucy meets Natsu and his best friend Happy. When Lucy gets captured by some shady men it is up to Natsu to save her. Unfortunately Natsu gets really bad motion sickness and Lucy is being held on a boat. Luckily Lucy isn't helpless and together they stop the shady men and free all of the other captured girls. Natsu is a wizard too and he promises to help Lucy join her dream guild.

This story is great, it just grabbed me from the first page and whisked me off! The first three pages set up for something big and I can't wait to find more more about these characters and this world. Some of Natsu's backstory is revealed in this first volume and I can't wait to learn more about him. Lucy seems like the lead character but Natsu really stole the show for me. Without giving too much away, he has a sympathetic back story that just piques my interest and played with my heart. I can't wait to read more of this series. This series, so far, reminds me of Soul Eater so if you enjoy that you should check this one out!
