01:18 pm - I passed!
Yay! I'm so excited. I passed my certification exam, so I'm now an official Physician Assistant. I still need to wait 2 more weeks to get my license, but yay!

03:07 pm - Yay license!
Woo hoo, I finally got my temporary license! All I have to wait for now is the liability insurance, which should take a couple of days, and then I'm all set to start working :) How exciting. So I'll probably start working next week, either Tuesday or Friday. Yay money :P Now I just have to worry about/study for the certification exam, which is going to be annoying, but oh well.

09:46 am - Back down to one job
Aww, the hospital job isn't going to work out for me. I was only available to work there Wed and Thurs, and they told me they don't really do anything on Thurs, and they need me more than once a week. So I'm back to only one job for now. That's okay though, it's the good job, that I'll soon be switched to full time at.
sadFeb. 21st, 2008
03:35 pm - Arghh!
People are retarded. I'm still trying to get my license so I can start working. The office manager called the state and asked what was taking so long with my permit, and they said they're waiting for my test scores. I don't NEED test scores to get a temporary permit, that's the point of it. I don't know why they don't understand that. They work there, I'm sure they issue permits all the time. How can they not know this stuff? So the manager is calling them back.
But anyway, as soon as all that's straightened out, I can start working. I have 2 part time jobs right now, so I'll be working a full time schedule (and getting full time pay - they both pay about the same amount) right away. That's pretty cool. The second job is only per-diem, and one of their PA's broke her ankle, so I'll be able to work every week. It won't be like that forever, but by then I'll probably be full time at the first job, so it'll all work out well.
That's about all I wanted to say right now. I'll call the manager back in a bit and see if she got it all figured out.
edit: She e-mailed me back and said my license MIGHT be ready by the end of next week. If not, then the week after. That's not so bad... another week and a half or so. Good stuff :)

02:33 pm - New job!
So I had the finalization interview with the new job today, and holy crap, they pay more than I was expecting. I knew this was going to happen... I would be worried they wouldn't pay enough, and it would end up not even being an issue. I went in thinking about a yearly salary, but since he wants me to start 3 days a week for a couple of months, he told me an hourly wage range. I wasn't prepared for that, so I asked for a calculator and did the math for the lower end of the range. He asked if it was okay and I said "Yeah, it's okay," and he was like "You want more? We can give you more," and offered an extra $3 an hour :P Apparently he's a fairly well known doctor, and has a lot of patients. They're hiring 2 new doctors this year too, so it's really growing. I'm very excited :) I just need to send in the rest of the paperwork and make sure everything is moving along. I'll probably start in about 3 weeks. Yay :)

07:22 pm - Happy New Year, 2008!
I feel good about starting off this year: newly graduated, ready to find a nice job, and finally become a real adult :P And of course there's no better way to ring in the new year than with a Bill and Victor party :) It was pretty fun. All the usual people were there (even Bonnie! and Jaime! at the same time!) and good times were had. There were tickle fights with Drew and Sarah, and Casey stripping, and new people getting confused about why Casey was stripping, and Drew and Casey taking "interesting" photos with John's camera so he could discover them later.
So right now I'm waiting for a job to get back to me about how many hours I can work and how much they can pay me, so I hope that all works out because I'd like to work there. But if not, I gave my resume to a few doctor's offices in the area, so we'll see what happens. Wish me luck :)

09:31 am - Rotations, cons, graduating!
Hmm, it's been a while, hasn't it... time seems to have flown by. I'm almost done with school - I graduate in 3 weeks. This last rotation is Surgery, which sucks a lot, but Thanksgiving gives me some nice days off. Any day I can avoid doing a surgery is a good day. They're just as bad as I remember them from January. I don't even mind the 24 hour shifts (which I do once a week), since there's no surgeries at night, and it means I can be off during the next day. I do them on Thursdays to give myself a 3 day weekend. I got some sleep during my first one, but not during the second, so I guess it all depends on how busy it is that night.
In other news, John and I are going to a new con in January, Arisia. It's in MA (oh, we're also going to a wedding in January. Yay, excuse to buy new fancy dress!) Here's why I decided to go: I was talking to Brian from WPI online, for the first time in about a year, and we were talking about different cons. He mentioned Arisia, which I'd heard about but never been to, and said it was really fun, and he was going and wouldn't mind sharing a room with John and I. So I figured, why not, it's fairly close and I might actually be working by then, which means money :P Brian's girlfriend was also very sweet and offered to make me a chain mail bikini top, hehe. I'm still trying to decide what color I want it to be. I need to start planning my outfits too; I want to get that Catwoman/Dominatrix costume and just wear it without the Catwoman mask.
Okay, I guess that's good enough for now. You'll probably hear from me again after I graduate, so bye bye!

10:16 pm - "You appear to have a rodent infestation."
This weekend was pretty cool. I saw Transformers, which was so adorable :) That might sound like a weird description of it, but I think they were trying to make the movie more "girl friendly." If so, they succeeded, with cute babies and a Chihuahua. The funniest part was when one of the Transformers looked at the Chihuahua and said "You appear to have a rodent infestation. Want me to take care of that for you?" and the kid had to stop him from stepping on the dog :P Now Jaime keeps joking that our parents house has a rodent infestation too. Poor Shadow :)
After that was Brian's party at Jim's house. It started off slow like parties usually do, and then picked up later on. Unfortunately I was driving so I couldn't stay late, and probably missed some fun. Lots of cool people were there, and I was getting hit on (which means people must have liked my corset :P)
Jaime and I went to a new store in the Centereach Mall (2 Cute), and it had some nice stuff. I still think the new store in the Smithhaven Mall (The Buzz) had better stuff, but I have yet to do some real shopping in there. I always feel like I need more clothes... what I really need is a job :P That'll come in February or so.
I was watching "So You Think You Can Dance" with John, and they were doing a Hustle routine. John suddenly said "Hey, that's the move we just learned this week!" so I rewound it, and it certainly was! We now officially know a move they do in professional dancing shows. Awesome.
My Pediatric rotation has been really cool so far (except for the waking up at 5:45am part). I got to play with babies all of last week, and I think I'd love to have a job doing that every day. Tomorrow I'm doing general hospital Pediatrics, and the remaining 2-3 weeks after that I'll be doing work in the clinics, which is like office stuff. I'm looking forward to it :)

10:28 am - Hair straightening
I'm now sitting in a beauty salon getting my hair straightened. I've never seen one with a computer for the public to use before, so that's pretty cool. This is a pretty popular place to get this done, apparently, because there were 5 people here when I got here (although some came together), and 3 more people who knew each other came in after that. I'm now waiting 20 minutes for the stuff to work its way into my hair or something. It smells really bad :P
I finished my Psych rotation. It was interesting. My supervisor (who saw me for all of like an hour a day for a week out of the whole month) didn't do my evaulation until the last minute, and then he circled all B's really quickly (probably without even reading the questions) and gave it to me. I did get a letter from one of the other doctors I worked with, who said how good I was, so I'm going to give that to Hofstra as well. Maybe I'll get a better grade, who knows. I have the test on Friday, which sucks, but I hope it won't be that bad. There's a party today that should be fun.
Okay, that's all I can think of to say right now... time to surf the web a little. Whoever's at the party later today will see my shiny new straight hair (though it might smell since I can't wash it for 2-3 days :P). Bye!

11:47 am - Boooored
I'm here on my last day of rotations, and it's so slow. There aren't any patients to see. My supervisor is taking a nap in the office :P Why can't they just let me go home? I have this stupid test to study for. I can't wait until my vacation starts. The worst part is, I can't get on any messenger services here in the hospital :P Maybe when the other girl comes in at 4pm, she'll let me go home.
Haha, apparently there are some patients now, so I'm going to do some work. Bye bye!

10:43 am - More dancing!
Haha, is that the only thing I post about these days? It sure seems like that's the case :P Anyway, last weekend John and I went to another dance at Stony Brook. There were less hot women hanging around our table, but a much better dance lesson (Hustle!), so I guess things worked out okay. Apparently we were totally wrong about the counting of beats for Hustle, but now we know. It was a good dance, with lots of Cha Cha and Swing and Tango-ing. And a bunch of other dances too, but they're less fun. This weekend we've convinced Jaime and Michael to come to another dance with us, so that'll be cool.
Oh yeah, I actually did go back to Burlington Coat Factory and ended up buying a really cute dress. It's brown with white dots, a halter neck, and fairly short. I love it :)
I apparently didn't really write anything about my last rotation, so I'll do so now. It was pretty cool. In a doctor's office, like I mentioned, so it was close to what I'm interested in doing for a living. I basically took the history and did the physical exam. I also drew blood, did EKG's, spirometry testing, glucose finger sticks, etc. Good experience. There were lots of people with colds and flu's, lots of muscle/joint pain, and abdominal pain with nausea or diarrhea. It was a nice office, I liked my supervisor, and I really enjoyed being there every day.
Now I'm onto my fourth rotation, which is also kind of interesting, but back in a hospital. It's internal medicine, which is kind of the same as primary care except more serious diseases (obviously, since the patients are being hospitalized for them :P) I'd been hearing rumors that the schedule was 3 12 hour days a week, but so far I've been coming in at 9 and leaving around 4. Next week I'll actually be working with my real supervisor (he was out this week), so maybe he'll change it. Basically what I've done so far is follow the attending doctors, and what they've done is either keep track of patients on the floors (monitor them every day and order meds and stuff), or admit patients in the ER (which is more along the lines of taking histories and physicals). It's cool so far.
Today the attending I was with had to go to a meeting, so he sent me to the library to look stuff up. Naturally I'm writing a livejournal entry instead :P They block AIM and AIM Express on these computers, which sucks. At 12 I'll go to the noon conference, where a doctor gives a lecture about a disease, and then I'll go down to the ER and work with the doctor there.
Okay, I think I've written enough for now. I know this stuff is probably boring most of you, but I like to write it so that I have a record of what's been going on in my rotations and stuff. Okay, bye bye!

12:43 am - Yay, dancing!
Last night John and I went to a ballroom dance at Stony Brook, hoping to see a younger crowd than we usually do. The people were still mostly in their 40's at least, but there were a few young people (and they all seemed to hang around our table). I danced with a few different people - mostly with John, of course... I did Hustle and Swing with Victor, Swing with Drew, and a made up version of West Coast Swing with an old guy from our table who didn't even know the dance :P John and I got to practice Hustle and Tango a little, which was fun.
There were 2 very attractive sisters there (who were probably around my age or younger) who's boyfriends didn't like dancing, so they just came with each other. Not surprisingly, all the guys seemed to want to dance with them, even though they barely knew any of the dances :P Overall, it was a very fun night.
I need to remember to go shopping at Burlington Coat Factory sometime soon. They have great cheap clothes there. I tried on some dresses and they were pretty cute. I need more dresses. We also went to IHOP, which was yummy as usual :)
Tomorrow I start my new rotation at 10am, so that's exciting. I hope it goes well.
goodMar. 7th, 2007
07:15 pm - Whew, finally done with that
Today was the last day of my rotation. They let us go after a couple of hours because it was our last day and we didn't have much to do. Yay! I have to study today and tomorrow though, because my test is on Friday.
Monday I start my new rotation, Primary Care, in an actual office. I'm excited about that, since it's closer to what I actually want to do for a living. I have to brush up on things like diabetes, headaches, smoking cessation, hypertention, vaccinations... common things that come up at a routine doctor's visit. Plus I start my first day at 10am, which is always good :)
That's about all that's been going on. Dancing is fun; there's a dance at Stony Brook this weekend that we're probably going to. There's pizza and a Salsa lesson, which is a dance we haven't learned yet, so that should be fun. Oh, and there's also dancing... with younger people, probably.
Okay, that's all I have to say for now. Bye bye!

The Everything Test
There are many different types of tests on the internet today. Personality tests, purity tests, stereotype tests, political tests. But now, there is one test to rule them all.Traditionally, online tests would ask certain questions about your musical tastes or clothing for a stereotype, your experiences for a purity test, or deep questions for a personality test. We're turning that upside down - all the questions affect all the results, and we've got some innovative results too! Enjoy :-)

07:52 pm - Yay, people love me :)
I received a friendly reminder from someone through livejournal, saying that I haven't posted in a while (wow, I didn't even know livejournal could do that. Awesome). Nothing interesting has really been going on at this rotation. It's a nursing home/rehab center, so most people just live there and need physical therapy, and the doctors barely do anything since the people aren't exactly "sick." There aren't even any PA's at all! Tomorrow I'm going in early to watch (and possibly attempt) blood drawing. Waking up at 6:30am isn't that fun, but I'll get to go home early and can drive to Suffolk before rush hour starts. Should be a fun weekend, involving some get-togethers.
Other than that, I've just been hanging out mostly with John, and Jaime. Last weekend we went to the free video game section of ComicCon and hung out with Luke, Dan, Peter, and Jaime's new friend. I played Chulip, and I'm not sure I want to get it anymore :P It seems very silly. There was a cool PS2 RPG there too, but I don't remember the name anymore.
John and I have been doing a lot of dancing lately. We learned Tango a couple of weeks ago and it's pretty fun, especially the move where he leans back and I lean forward and stick my knee in his crotch :P We went to a dance last Friday, and we did a lot of the dances. I really want to learn the Hustle now.
Hmm, I guess that's really all I have to say for now. My rotation ends on Wednesday, I have my test on Friday, and then I start Primary Care the next week. That should be great, definitely more up my alley. Maybe it'll motivate me to write here again :P Alright, bye!

Rotations have been going well. I got to see a delivery on Friday :) The baby was so cute! The mother seemed okay for most of it, but towards the end when the baby's head was coming out, she was like "get this baby out of me!" and grabbing onto my pants :P It seems like I'm leaning towards Pediatrics so far, so we'll see how my actual rotation in that goes. Next week my supervisor is on vacation, so I'll be working on the Gynecology oncology floor. Something new... should be interesting.
I've also been fighting a cold for the past few days. Figures, the first year I get my flu shot is the first year in a long time I get sick :P I'm sure it had more to do with working in a hospital though. I have to figure out supplements to take to stop this from happening next time. I'm feeling mostly better now, just a little dizzy for some strange reason. I'm hoping I'll be fine by tomorrow, since my new hours are going to be 7am to 2:30pm (waking up early sucks :( ).
