As of a few hours ago and in a rapid, out-of-the-blue announced and illegally taken decision, the Greek government decided to shut down the historical National Television-ERT-under the pretense of 'saving money'.
For the record, the country's fiscal problems have more to do with our politicians' poor managerial skills than any of the social benefits' costs, ERT included.
Special police forces marched on the National TV transmitters to shut them down, going toe to toe with ERT employees and peacful protesters gathered to express their opposition against this whiplash decision; national TV channels went down all over Greece a few minutes ago, while they were transmitting!!
I must add here that the Greek National Television is one of the few available channels to Greeks living in other parts of the world-and the only Greek channels for some countries.
Over 2.600 people will be left jobless at the wake of this random act of the Greek government's latest provocation and while some of them are, as the Minister of press said, installed in their positions through less than legal channels-aka they got their jobs because they knew a politician or two-the majority do not fall under that category.
This is a blow to democracy in Greece and free speech and everywhere else. And it follows another recent act of tyranny, less than a month ago, when the government basically commandeered teachers ahead of schedule because they were considering starting a strike.

It's way past time to get the truth out there! This is not the first event, it will not be the last and if Greece is starting out-EU's little 'experiment' if any of you have heard the news lately-then anyone, crisis or not, can be next!
