2016 World Series Champions
Way to be, guys. Way to be.
What's holding the Cubs back is their pitching, specifically the bullpen and specifically specifically Carlos "Snatching Defeat From the Jaws of Victory" Marmol.

EDIT: Holy shit, they actually won despite Marmol.

Approximately 48 hours and $40 later, my laptop is now in the shop. Hopefully I'll hear something positive some time tomorrow. In the meantime, thank God for smartphones and tablets.

So tonight my computer suddenly began giving me a hard disk error. It's the first time I've ever had a comp do that.
Do I state panicking, back shit up and start thinking if replacements? Or do I take a breath, calm down a little and start backing shit up?

Maybe I'll put it on my Christmas list for this year...

My BJD family has grown quite a bit since I last posted about them. I got my dark tan Bei and my light tan Isabella. And recently I've fallen in love with Fairyland Dolls; I've already added two Pukifees and one Littlefee to my group.
Here are the hoodlums in question:

The one kneeling beside the suitcase is my Littlefee Ante, Poppy. The smaller one looking at the camera is my Pukifee Zoe Peony. And the one headfirst in the suitcase is Daisy, my Pukifee Flora. Next time I'll post a picture where you can actually see her face instead of her feet.

In other news, I'm fairly certain that the auction house ripped off my grandfather. Now that one of my cousins is renting his house from my uncle, a lot of Grandpa's stuff was put up for auction; there wasn't enough for an individual auction, so Grandpa's stuff was put in with another person's estate. For years there's been an Oriental rug rolled up under Mom and Dad's bed; since there's absolutely no chance of that rug being used Mom decided to put it in with Grandpa's things for the auction and take out whatever profit the rug made from the money Grandpa's stuff made.
The auction was last weekend, and let's just say that Grandpa didn't make as much as Mom hoped. We got the check today and Mom's profit from the rug makes up a good portion of the total money made from the auction. Needless to say Mom's pretty upset, because the money from the auction was supposed to go toward Grandpa's care in the nursing home.
And how convenient it is that my uncle and his family have been on vacation in California for the past week, and so missed the auction. I can't help but wonder if Grandpa might have gotten more money from the auction house if my uncle had been in town.

Byron, Illinois is home to the Soldier's Monument, the only thing in the city listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was recently refurbished in time for Memorial Day 2012, although the eagle that used to be on top of the spire was not replaced (guess no one wants lightning to strike a third time).
The town is also the birthplace and hometown of Albert Spalding, founder of A.G. Spalding Sporting Goods. Remember seeing the name "Spalding" on those basketballs you played with during gym class or at recess? That's the same guy.
(Hi, Kim.)
Seriously, I had no idea how addicting this hobby could be when I first started out on it. I started out back in February with a BBB Isabella. Now I'm up to six dolls with a seventh on the way. Last month I special ordered a dark tan Resinsoul Bei from the Bobobie website (I'm planning on doing her up as Rue from The Hunger Games), and earlier this week I received the BBB March that I had ordered through Denver Doll Emporium.
And now I'm considering putting another doll on layaway through DDE, another Isabella in light tan.
So while I'm working that little conundrum out, have some more spam of my girls. First up a picture of Viola (formerly Rue). She's definitely the sophisticated older sister of my group.

Next up, Posy.

Prim:

And last but not least here's the newest member of my group: Lily, a BBB March.

And here's a group photo of all of my girls. From left to right - Lily, Alba, Posy (and dolly), Prim and Viola.
On a related note, it's funny to have the camera ask if anyone blinked after taking a picture of one of the girls.

"1985's calling, and it wants it's couch back." *snerk*
Speaking of flea markets, the Pec thing is in a week, and I've managed to get the day off of work so Mom and I can go. Can't wait.
And for a little change of pace, how about some BJD mini-spam? Allow me to introduce the newest member of my little family.

This is Posy, my Resinsoul Yu. I've had her for about a couple weeks, but refrained from posting any pictures for her because I had absolutely no clothes for her. I bought a couple Barbie Kelly outfits off of eBay but they were way too small. All I had were some extra Moondreamers and Strawberry Shortcake dresses but those were short enough to be barely too short.

First, here are a couple pictures of Rue.

Up next is the first of my new girls, Alba. She is a white Resinsoul Bei I purchased secondhand off of eBay. Alba actually arrived at my house the day of my grandmother's funeral.

Just to prove that I have no self-control when it comes to BJDs, about a week after I got Alba I bought Prim, a Resinsoul Ni, from Junkyspot.

Now I'm debating about the next addition to my little family, either a Bobobie March or a smaller Resinsoul Yu. And that's not including the dark tan Bei I'm trying to special order from the RS website (if I ever hear back from them).

You know what would make me happy? If all of the politicians would just knock off all the efforts to insult their opponents/the other political parties. We don't want to hear how horrible you think your rival is or how much her/his ideas suck; we want to hear about your ideas, and to be able to determine for ourselves whether they suck or not!

All U.S. Internet Providers will be policing downloads by July 12, 2012
"File-sharers, beware: By July 12, major US Internet service providers (ISPs) will voluntarily begin serving as copyright police for the entertainment industry, according to Cary Sherman, chief executive of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The so-called “six-strikes” plan is said to be one of the most effective anti-piracy efforts ever established in the US."
The article goes on to give details. After six notices, internet providers will decide to throttle a person's internet speed, or cut it off altogether. I don't know if they will crack down on torrents only, or if it is up to the internet provider. I get the sense it is up to the internet provider. So some people could get away with downloading non torrents, while others might get their internet service cut off. I urge you to click it and read, as we all know people who download.
No more downloading eps of your favorite shows for vidding, gifs, or fanfiction art. No more downloading screencaps possibly. I'm so sorry my friends. I don't even know if BT Guard will work to protect you, but I would google it if I were you. It is a professional service that supposedly can protect you from the invasive eyes of your internet provider.
Just, my friends, please make each other aware. Please be aware of the date JULY 12TH. Mark your calendar and double check with your internet provider by then. If you start receiving notices of downloaded activity, this is why. And your internet service could be throttled or cut off.

Funeral's tomorrow, and Saturday my dad and his siblings are supposedly getting together to go through some of Grandma's things - probably her artwork, too - to see what everyone wants and what-not. I have a feeling the civil attitudes are going to dissipate fairly quickly then.

My dad is currently butting heads with some of my aunts and uncles over funeral arrangements and I just want to Gibbs-slap the hell out of all of them.
And to top it off my wireless mouse died.

I honestly do not give a fuck about Whitney Houston's death right now. Excuse me if I believe my grandmother dying is more important.

All told this has been...different than when my other grandmother died. Maybe because it's a longer wait for the other shoe to drop this time. Or maybe because I'm still grasping some sliver of hope that once Grandma gets out of the hospital maybe she'll start to do a little better. And I know part of it is all the stupid fighting going on between my dad's siblings. The one time in their lives that they ought to be together more than ever, yet their stupid egos and whateverelsehaveyou are only driving them further apart. Especially considering one of Dad's sisters died last year.
Bad enough that Grandma's slowly dying, but does Dad's side of the family have to break too?

But now more shit's rolling downhill towards my family.
My grandmother (Dad's mom) has been having problems with confusion lately, and we thought she was having mini-strokes or something. She ended up going to the emergency room last week and was diagnosed with a UTI; apparently those can cause confusion in elderly patients. CAT scan showed no evidence of a stroke of any kind, she was sent home with antibiotics, everything's fine.
Yeah, not so much. Early Sunday morning Grandma thought she had a stroke or something and ended up falling in her bedroom and hitting her head on her bedroom door, hard enough that the doorknob went through the adjacent wall. For some reason I'm not clear on she waited a few hours to call one of my aunts who thankfully summoned the ambulance and Grandma was taken to the hospital. Again they did a CAT scan and again there was no evidence of a stroke, but they did find an epidural hematoma, probably from when she hit her head on the door. By Sunday night it had gotten bad enough that she was having trouble swallowing, and it's just gotten worse from there. An MRI was done today and according to that she did suffer a stroke at the base of her brain. From what Dad's told me and what I've heard him tell Mom Grandma's still confused, her speech is really slurred, she's black and blue and the doctor's not very optimistic that she's going to get much better. In fact, tonight when I came home from work and I asked how Grandma was doing Dad said she wasn't doing too well. And Mom mentioned something about how most of the family would probably prefer having our pastor handle the funeral instead of the pastor of the church one of my other aunts goes to. So to me it goes without saying what her chances are at this point.
And this whole time all I can think is that I can't go through this again, not with another grandma. Seven years ago in the fall we were playing a similar waiting game, with my grandma on my mom's side. Grandma is a healthy, active, vibrant woman; she's painted and sketched all of her life, and the last time I was at her house she had a painting she was working on. It wasn't supposed to happen like this, damnit!

ACTA in a Nutshell –
What is ACTA? ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.
Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”
What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.
