On February 1st, .EC celebrated 35 years since its creation. To honor this milestone, we interviewed the NIC.EC team.
What does this institutional milestone mean for NIC.EC?
For NIC.EC, reaching 35 years represents the consolidation of .ec as a fundamental part of Ecuador’s digital identity. This milestone not only marks an institutional trajectory, but also reflects the sustained growth of the country’s digital ecosystem.
Throughout these years, we have worked to ensure the stability, security, and evolution of the .ec domain, strengthening our technical processes and reaffirming our commitment to the local and international community. This anniversary symbolizes experience, responsibility, and vision for the future within Internet governance in the region.
What projects and/or services are you currently working on?
We are currently promoting initiatives that combine technological modernization and the development of digital culture.
One of the main projects is the implementation of RDAP, replacing the traditional WHOIS system, which allows us to align with international standards, strengthen security, and improve registry data management.
At the same time, we are developing training programs aimed at university students in their final semesters, promoting the importance of having an .ec domain, creating professional websites, and e-commerce as real positioning tools.
We also provide training for young people linked to Aldeas SOS, focused on teaching them how to create a website with an .ec domain, providing them with practical tools for job placement and the development of entrepreneurial ventures.
In addition, we publish the monthly digital magazine Identidad.ec, where we highlight innovation, companies, talent, and technological advances, projecting .ec as a symbol of Ecuadorian digital identity.
Our focus is clear: not only to manage domains, but also to actively promote the country’s digital transformation and culture.
What is the vision and mission of .ec for the coming years? What role will LACTLD play in this regard?
Our vision is to consolidate .ec as a strategic digital asset for Ecuador, strengthening its positioning, trust, and adoption both nationally and internationally.
Our mission focuses on maintaining secure and transparent technical operations, promoting good practices in Internet governance, and generating initiatives that support the country’s digital development.
In this process, LACTLD’s support is key. Regional cooperation allows us to exchange knowledge, strengthen technical capacities, and work in coordination with other registries in Latin America and the Caribbean. We firmly believe that digital growth is built collaboratively, and regional coordination is essential for sustainable progress.
