Dancing Backwards Towards Pluperfect is a poetic assemblage of a life sown outside the predictability of middle-class, straight America, one where the aftermath of repeated trauma and loss is allayed by unexpected moments of connection, empathy, and love.
Koss pens inventive textual routes through life transits, forging head-on through the debris with unflinching vision and grit in a timbre that shifts from existential dread to dark comedy. Part dirge and part survival story, Dancing Backwards transmutes the rubble of trauma, abandonment, grief, and suicide loss into a queer, hybrid elixir, their lived story worthy of telling.

Chiron Review Issue139 | Winter 2025
I’m very pleased to have work in the latest issue of Chiron Review, one of my favorite magazines. It’s a dream poem that includes Max, Helen Reddy, and a Harold and Maude reference. It first appeared online in Moist Poetry a few years back. I’m glad it also has this paper life. I see lots […]
2025 Publication Summary
2025 was not a prolific publishing year for me. However, I turned a funk into a gardening adventure, and that was life changing. What did get published, with the help and talent of some very generous people, were some interviews, plus some great book reviews for Dancing Backwards Towards Pluperfect were also published, which I […]
Dancing Backwards Towards Pluperfect First Birthday
Today is my chapbook, Dancing Backwards Towards Pluperfect’s first birthday. The year has flown by quickly and much has happened both in my book life, my real life, and in America’s life, not to mention the upheaval everywhere. There were high notes and disappointments, one of the highs being it was shortlisted for a Lammy […]
Poems About Narcissism
Sharing several poems about narcissism, some previously published, some not. This is a poem/work in progress about narcissism that I pulled to contemplate more fully, but also just because submitting feels like such a drag lately. Have you ever been in a relationship with a narcissist (or born to one)? Or had a narcissistic boss? […]

Instead of Writing, I Do This
This spring and summer, instead of writing, I retreated from lit, (except for a thin online presence) and grew a garden. I was feeling tired, had a very difficult ’24 fall and winter with things going wrong on all fronts, expensive home and now auto repairs, and clients and friends blowing me off, causing hardship […]
