My Story

After twenty-five years at the front of a high school classroom, I began a second career teaching music part time and writing freelance. I saw a good deal of success, selling more than 200 articles in two years and writing children’s curriculum. I even wrote several picture books, two of which earned pre-published awards. My first published book (a Bethany House anthology) debuted in 2016.

Then God stretched my desires and imagination. He had more for me.

Why not write what I love to read?

I dared to step out and begin writing Historical Fiction. If I could no longer guide minds and hearts into discovery from a teacher’s podium, I would do it from the pages of a book.

So, HEART OF HISTORY was born:
Grace and Grit from History's Hidden Chapters

I had taught the American Civil War many times over the years, so of course, my first series had to be about some little-known facet of the War. The first novel of the "West Virginia: Born of Rebellion’s Storm" series debuted in April 2024, and more followed.

Besides writing novels, I lead worship and do bookkeeping for my church. I also speak to women’s groups and teach writing workshops for libraries and writers’ organizations.

Country life, fireplaces, hot tea, snow, and the Amplified Bible all hold a special place in my heart. When life slows a bit, you’ll find me with my saxophone or fiddle, or at the piano. And if I’ve just finished a manuscript, I treat myself to making a quilt! Life is never dull with my hubby and our two amusing miniature doxies, Lily and Chester.

"If History were taught in the form of stories, it would never be forgotten."

- Rudyard Kipling
