So, been awhile huh? Just a heads up, I will be deleting this journal soon. (I don't know when exactly, but soon.) However, I'm trying to be active on dreamwidth again, but under a different name. if you'd like to follow me over on dreamwidth and chat about fandom stuff or random stuff or life or whatever, please send me a private message and I'll give you my new info. I don't know how many people are still hanging around here, but I've really been missing fandom and the community that comes with it. My current fandom obsession is Schitt's Creek, so if you're into that please hit me up. If you don't know what that is, I urge you to look it up and watch the best show on TV right now. I'm also still into lots of old fandoms - Supernatural, Merlin, Doctor Who, etc. And other shows, books, movies, music. I just miss squeeing with people. Uh, if you weren't aware, I hate to bring this to you, but in the last few years we lost some great people. Two of my very best fandom and RL friends passed away, blue_fjords and count_to_seven. Blue has been gone for almost five years, and V has been gone for almost a year and a half. I still miss them and think about them every day. If you remember them from back in the day and hadn't heard, I'm sorry you had to find out this way. Please message me to chat if you're interested. This journal will self-destruct in... some amount of time that is still tbd.

And I can never remember what I did after I make the soup. So, here's my best guess for what I did to make creamy potato and chicken soup: 2 med sized potatoes (more if you want more soup - I made for 2 people) some green onions (really, however many onions you think looks good) 1 carrot (or 2 if you like carrots) 1 chicken breast (again, more if you're making more soup) water and/or chicken stock (amount really depends on how much soup you want, I used 8 cups-ish, I think, to start out and it boils down considerably) cheese (I used gruyere, but you can use whatever kind of cheese you like) some half & half (I had a pint, used less than half) SEASONINGS! I totes used that Cajun seasoning again (which is basically just salt, black pepper, red pepper, cayenne pepper, garlic, paprika, and thyme) parsley or other garnish as you please 1. Chop the veggies: - peel and cube potatoes - make your cubes smallish, bit-sized - slice carrots - chop onions Throw carrots in pot of water/chicken stock. Don't turn it on yet. 2. Cube the chicken breast(s) too, even smaller than the potato cubes. 3. In a skillet, saute the potato cubes and the white parts of the green onions in a little bit of olive oil (or butter if you prefer) and throw some seasonings on there. Do it just enough so that your potatoes are coated in seasoning and very slightly golden brown. They should still be hard, though. Then toss all that in the pot with the carrots (drain any excess oil off first) and set to boiling. 4. Saute your chicken cubes the same way, until the chicken is cooked thoroughly and all seasoned and delicious. Then toss the chicken into the pot as well, and continue boiling until the potatoes and carrots are soft. Add the green parts of the green onions (you can add these sooner if you prefer your onions more cooked). 5. Turn the heat down low, and grate in your cheese. You don't need a lot of cheese, but really as much as you like. Stir it in until it melts and blends into the broth. Then pour in the half & half until the soup is your desired creaminess. 6. Garnish with chopped parsley or basil or nothing or whatever other plant you like. 7. EAT. This was a very good soup. We gave it 4 stars, would eat again. cross-posted from dreamwidth - comments:

Could I get a job doing this? I don't want to be, like, a chef. I just want to create new things and make people eat them and tell me if they're good. Anyway, 1st up, COOKIES. Everyone loves cookies. My grandma used to make AWESOME peanut butter cookies, and to this day we have never been able to recreate the recipe. So here's a random one I found online: 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 cup butter, room temperature 1/2 cup peanut butter 1 egg 1 1/4 cup flour 3/4 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 Beat the butter until creamy, 2 minutes. Add the sugars, beat for 2 more minutes. Mix in the peanut butter and egg. Mix together the dry ingredients - flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Stir the dry ingredients into the sugar butter mixture. 2 Wrap dough in plastic and refrigerate at least 3 hours. 3 Preheat oven to 375°F. Shape dough into 1 1/4 inch balls. Place about 3 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten in crisscross pattern with a fork. Bake until light brown, 9 to 10 minutes. Cool on baking sheets for a minute; transfer to rack to cool completely. Now, I did all that, but between steps 1 and 2, I added 4 packets of powdered hot chocolate mix with marshmallows to the batter (and a tiny little bit of water to soak up the extra dry stuff) and they turned out REALLY GOOD. Just a hint of chocolate flavor. I think if you want them more chocolatey, use plain cocoa powder and actual mini marshmallows (the really really mini ones). Next post, soup! cross-posted from dreamwidth - comments:

So, I just read this fic describing the effects of ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) and was like, "THAT SOUNDS AWESOME. I NEED THAT." So, I watched all the linked Youtube videos. Then went back and read all the comments on the fic from these people who discovered this great new way to relax... AND I WANT TO MURDER ALL OF THEM BECAUSE IT DID NOTHING FOR ME. Like, the opposite even. Some of that shit was SUPER irritating. Now I'm annoyed AND I can't sleep. cross-posted from dreamwidth - comments:

So, we're all aware of my feelings on zombies, right? They terrify me. AND I LOVE THAT. Which means if there's a new TV show about zombies, then obviously I'm going to watch it. That's just, like, a given. I did have reservations about BBC's new series 'In The Flesh' though. It sort of turns the whole genre on its head, giving us the story from the perspective of the "zombies" and making them as much survivors as the living. Think "Warm Bodies" but not as light-hearted. As I said to entangled_now, my fascination with the whole zombie thing has a lot to do with the inherent threat. Take away the danger, and it's a different story. I wasn't sure how 'In The Flesh' was going to play it, ( but then, in the middle of the zombie apocalypse, there was a tragic gay love story.Collapse )cross-posted from dreamwidth - comments:

Do we want this in list form? Yeah, I think so. 1. I've moved all my old Torchwood fic here to the AO3. So if you're still interested in that stuff... uh, there it is for you. I like that it gives you a total wordcount - mine is 125,923 btw, and more than half of that is all in one story. I won't be moving the icons, so those will just be lost to the internet forever, but I might at least post a vid list or something there eventually. 2. WRITING. I am still writing, in other fandoms and original stuff. march_for_words is a thing that is now - a little comm we set up as a sort of no-pressure answer to NaNo at a more convenient time of year. I'm using it mostly to make myself accountable for actually getting shit done. It's helping, I think. My wordcount so far this month isn't huge, but I am ACCOMPLISHING something and am hopeful I'll finish. Come join us if you're looking for a little extra writing support. 3. ZOMBIE FEST 2013! March 31st, The Dead Will Rise! @ zombi_fic_ationYAY! I gotta get on pimping this. I had plans to get the word out sooner/faster/better than last year. I'll do it soon. (Also, I keep mistyping 2013 as 2012 still...) Anyway, that's all for now. How's it going with you? cross-posted from dreamwidth - comments:

I don't mean Marysues, the character who is so fabulous you can't even look at her without going blind. I just mean original supporting characters who resemble actual human beings (or whatever other species they might be). Characters with actual personalities - not quirks, or flaws even, but... traits. Both good and bad. How much detail should the author include? How much backstory? How much interaction with the main characters should the OCs have? It's so easy to let a character become nothing more than scenery, or a lens through which the other characters are examined. Even canon characters can fall into this. Not to say that that's always a bad thing; it's often enlightening to view things through an outsider's perspective. But that's not all they should be, right? How do you go about creating a character that is more than a cardboard cutout, a wall for the main characters to bounce their own emotions off? Without going overboard and boring your readers? How much is too much? How little is not enough? When reading fanfic, do you ever love an OC? Do you ever want to learn more about them? Do you ever wish the author had given them more personality? Or are you just skimming those parts to get back to your main characters/pairings? I love creating original characters and putting them in my fic. But I'm not sure how often I love reading them. Where's the balance for you? How much is too much? cross-posted from dreamwidth - comments:

Today is blue_fjords's birthday - REJOICE! Also, here's something shiny. So, like a million years ago (or sometime back last autumn) I told Blue I was sort of making this Team Free Will playlist... and then I never finished it. Well, really, I just kept adding stuff to it. Part of it became The Fall of Man, a Dean/Cas fanmix. I guess this is the rest. Normally my "fanmixes" tell, or follow, a storyline... this is more a swirling mess of emotions. Anyway! A Team Free Will playlist, featuring: ( Dean, Sam, and Castiel (and Dean/Cas, Sam & Dean, and Cas & Sam) with icons!Collapse )cross-posted from dreamwidth - comments:

This is what I want: click hereLike seriously, I'd like to see a "love" story where they're like: "If we weren't together, I'd be fine. I might even be great. I could totally live without you... ...but I don't want to." I know I've posted similar sentiments before (which I can't seem to find in my archives... ETA: I FOUND IT!) but I'm just sayin'. It's nice when people choose to be with someone because that's what they want. Not b/c of desitny or some other bullshit.cross-posted from dreamwidth - comments:

So, we all know blue_fjords and how awesome she is, right? Of course we do! Well, her awesome just got... awesomer. Behold: A Mighty Dark NightIn which our intrepid hero, Detective Dean Winchester of Prince George's County meets Homeland Security Agent Castiel James over a corpse. Do you like crime dramas? Do you like action and adventure? Do you like mysteries and a little bit of sleuthing? Do you like Dean? Do you like Cas? Do you like epic tales of romance and hot, hot sex? If you answered 'yes' to any of those questions, then why are you still here? GO READ THIS NOW. If you did not answer 'yes' to any of those question, I think you should go read it anyway, b/c you will still LOVE it.Srsly, Blue is an AMAZING storyteller, weaving intricate details throughout a complex plot. This should be a movie, cuz I'd watch the shit out of that! In other news, mom and I finished season 6! Gotta say, it was much better the 2nd time around, things made a lot more sense and I actually understand and kind of like where they went with Castiel. But now I AM A'SCARED for the new season. I mean, just look what they've done to him (my poor friend): eep!cross-posted from dreamwidth - comments:
