I’m still feeling inspired at the thought of moving back to California!
Here’s a favorite video by Best Coast, whose album cover I stole for my last post.
It’s directed by Drew Barrymore and stars Chloe Moretz so you know it’s awesome.
Today is the first day of Spring and while it’s already been warm for a while here in Florida, today still feels fresh and full of hope. I’m currently solidifying new and exciting plans for the future, and I couldn’t be more excited.
Here are a few ways I’ll be embracing the new season:
Plant fresh herbs. (Indoors of course.)
Commit to a regular yoga practice.
Re-create these adorable Free People shorts from old jeans.
Attend at least one outdoor music festival.

Have you ever listened to a song over and over, and then one day it just clicks? It’s like every single verse, every word, is written to convey the exact thoughts going on in your head. Could it be some kind of self-fulfilling prophecy? You mindlessly listen and sing along, but then you wake up and it’s your exact situation. Maybe we just relate to a song more once we’ve really listened to it. Maybe the emotion comes once you don’t have to really listen anymore and you just feel what the artist is saying. I can’t explain it, but I’ve been going through some heavy times and even though I’ve been listening to these songs for months, it’s like they’re brand new again, and mysteriously written by my own thoughts and feelings.
This goes out to all the heartbroken but hopefuls.
Marina & The Diamonds: Lies
City and Colour: Sleeping Sickness
And I’m afraid
To sleep because of what haunts me
Such as living with the uncertainty
That I’ll never find the words to say
Which would completely explain
Just how I’m breaking down
Someone come and, someone come and save my life
Maybe I’ll sleep when I am dead
But now it’s like the night is taking sides
With all the worries that occupy the back of my mind
Could it be this misery will suffice?
I’ve become
A simple souvenir of someone’s kill
And like the sea
I’m constantly changing from calm to ill
Madness fills my heart and soul as if the great divide could swallow me whole
oh, how I’m breaking down
oooohhh my life
Someone come and, someone come and save my life (save my life)
Someone come and, someone come and save my life (save my life)
Someone come and, someone come and save my life
Could it be this misery will suffice?
The Lumineers: Ho Hey
Ho!
Hey!
Ho!
Hey!
(Ho!) I’ve been trying to do it right
(Hey!) I’ve been living a lonely life
(Ho!) I’ve been sleeping here instead
(Hey!) I’ve been sleeping in my bed,
(Ho!) sleeping in my bed
(Hey!)
(Ho!)
(Ho!) So show me family
(Hey!) All the blood that I would bleed
(Ho!) I don’t know where I belong
(Hey!) I don’t know where I went wrong
(Ho!) But I can write a song
(Hey!)
1, 2, 3
I belong with you, you belong with me, you’re my sweetheart
I belong with you, you belong with me, you’re my sweet
(Ho!)
Hey!
Ho!
Hey!
(Ho!) I don’t think you’re right for him
(Hey!) Look at what it might have been if you
(Ho!) Took a bus to China Town
(Hey!) I’d be standing on Canal
(Ho!) And Bowery
(Hey!)
(Ho!) And she’d be standing next to me
(Hey!)
1, 2, 3
I belong with you, you belong with me, you’re my sweetheart
I belong with you, you belong with me, you’re my sweetheart
Love ‒ we need it now
Let’s hope for some
So, we’re bleeding out
I belong with you, you belong with me, you’re my sweetheart
I belong with you, you belong with me, you’re my sweet
(Ho!)
(Hey!)
(Ho!)
(Hey!)

Music is so important to me. It can provide comfort on a bad day, inspiration on a work day, and add joy to a great day. Here are some jams (old & new) that I’m loving right now. Enjoy!
Lykke Li: Get Some (Beck Remix)
Perfume Genius: Hood
Gil Scott: I’ll Take Care of You
